Abstract

A float (1) is mounted in a metal shaft (2) which supports, at its base, a weight (3). The shaft is supported via two guides which permits free movement of the shaft. The assembly is fitted to a pipe by a semicircular coupler (6) which is clamped onto a flat metal plate (4) which allows the shaft to run up its side. The top of the shaft is connected via a mobile joint to a pointer which is pivoted a small way along a needle fixed to the coupler. The pointer is positioned against a card so that its movement can be readily observed. When the pipe is full it will be at a different position with respect to the float than when it is not full. ADVANTAGE - Replaces pressure gauges and their attendant pipes and mountings.

Description

LOAD GAUGE FOR MATERIALS
TANSPORT IN WATER BY FLOATING PIPES
The present invention relates to a device for controlling the load transported by the delivery pipe of a suction dredge in operation on water.

The load control is traditionally carried out using pressure gauges (1 or more) having their grip on the discharge pipe. This device has the disadvantage of being faulty on the one hand, by the obstruction of the suction pipe during landslides underwater and on the other hand, by obstruction of the conduits ensuring proper functioning manometers, these being loaded with mud and sands.

The device according to the invention overcomes these drawbacks. The basic principle results from a visual and physical observation. Under the effect of the load, circulating in the discharge pipe, connecting the dredge in operation on the water body and the material storage basin, the floats holding the discharge pipe above the water. sinking more or less, this phenomenon, intrinsic application of the principle of Archimedes (any body placed in water undergoes a thrust equal to the weight of the volume of water displaced) had the disadvantage of not not be important enough to be used qualitatively. The trick therefore resided in the amplification of the movement in translation, in rotation movement by a device (needle flail).

The device according to the invention consists of a float (1) mounted on a metal rod (2) whose length varies according to the type and installation of the dredge. The rod supports at its base, under the float, a weight (3) which is used to calibrate the device. A support (4) (in the vertical plane in the drawing behind the rod) on which are fixed two guides (5) which allow the free translation of the rod (2). A flange (6) secures the device to the suction pipe of the suction dredger. A beam (7) fixed at the top of the rod (2) by a mobile link (8) makes it possible to transform, via a needle (9) fixed on the flange (6), the movement of translational rotation and amplify the movement. The movement of the beam is displayed on a calibrated panel (10). The point 0 determined when the pipe is full of water as soon as materials pass through the pipe, the load increases and the beam descends. In the event of poor visibility of the panel, electrical equipment transforms and transmits the movements of the device on a dial in the operator's cabin. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for controlling the load of a material transported by the delivery pipe of a suction suction dredge with floating delivery.
