Abstract

Device for drinking a liquid contained in a glass. The invention relates to a device, attached to a defined glass, which allows the user to drink a liquid without the risk of uncontrolled flow, whatever the position of the latter may be. It is constituted by a lid 1 having an orifice 3, in which there is positioned a valve 6, extended by a flexible tongue 9, reinforced by ribs or profiles 10. The end 12 of the tongue 9 adheres to the lid according to the positioning of the profiles 5, 10, 4, and 11. Fluid-tightness is achieved by surface contact between the profiles 4 and 11. When the user applies a pressure which opposes the tongue 9 and the that of the water, the valve partially opens allowing the liquid to flow and air to penetrate. The concave shape of the lid 1 allows an ergonomic adaptation of the action on the valve and makes it possible to collect the liquid rejected by the operator. The device according to the invention is intended in particular for persons handicapped through illness.

Description

SAFETY COVER FOR ABSORBING A LIQUID
BY AUTONOMOUS MANAGEMENT
OF A "VALVE"
The present invention relates to a "valve" device attached to a cover, adaptable to a glass:
When we are lying down and sick, drinking becomes difficult. Patients unable to stand up then have at their disposal other objects than glass: pipette in flexible tube, duck or small teapot, infusion ...

A glass with a safety cover allows the disabled person to reproduce a usual gesture of grasping, while being secure.

On the other hand this device prevents the liquid contained in the glass from accidentally flowing and doses the flow at the whim of the drinker.

This sealed cover assembled by "clipping" has a projecting and movable part called here "valve".

When the glass is overturned, the water pressure on the valve ensures sealing by surface contact. As soon as the lip or upper jaw exerts pressure on the valve, the valve opens a space allowing the liquid to flow. It should be noted that this cover has a large drop allowing the lip and the upper jaw to adapt to the service of the valve and to incorporate the nose therein. This concave shape recovers any liquid that is not absorbed during the straightening of the glass.

The adaptation by "clipping" is provided on the periphery of the cover and will adapt to a defined glass.

The cover and the valve, glued together by ultrasound, are made of thin plastic, opaque or transparent, having the property of food use or even the biodegradable property in the case of a disposable concept: Their manufacture will be done by thermoforming or by injection.

Figure i shows, in top view, the cover without valve
Figure 2 shows, in top view, the valve
D Figure 3 shows, in section, the device according to the invention
The cover (1), FIG. 1, has a radius adapted to the glass on which it will be received as well as the "clipping" return (2) which will provide the maintenance and the sealing. A valve outlet cutout (3) is made there as well as the sealing profiling t4) and receiving (5), of the valve.

The valve (6), Figure 2, consists of the contact surface (7) with the lip or the upper jaw, the flow closure (8) and a flexible tongue (9), reinforced by a stiffness profile (10) extending around the contact and flow elements in sealing profile (11).

Figure 3, said valve (6) adapts to the cutout (3) and to the profiles (4) and (5) operated in the cover (1). The end (12) of the tongue is glued by ultrasound (or other method). The flexibility of the valve is therefore obtained by the length of the force arm thus created and by the control of the profiles (10) or stiffness ribs.

The seal of the opening is made by surface contact of the profile (4) of the cover and of the profile (11) of the valve and is reinforced by the elasticity of the tongue (9) reinforced with its profiles (10) of rigidity.

And also by the pressure of the liquid when the glass is overturned.

The venting is done by admission of air above the contact surface (7) of the lip or upper jaw, when the latter is actuated under normal conditions of use.

It should be noted that the main flow zone corresponding to the obturation (8) can, by pushing the valve, receive elements of the straw or flexible suction type.

A.  It is understood that when a pressure from the upper lip or from the upper jaw is exerted on the contact surface (7) the liquid first flows through the orifice corresponding to the closure zone (8) and that in the case of a total depression of the valve (6) in the cover (14 the inventive device no longer meets the concepts of safety and psychological comfort mentioned on page A.
