The present invention relates to polyolefinic compositions having improved fire behavior.
Polyolefins are readily combustible materials and it is necessary for a number of applications particularly in the cable industry sectors to have compositions having improved flame retardancy.
To do this, we have already made use of many halogenated products such as chlorinated paraffins, polybrominated diphenyl and polybrominated diphenyl ether associated with antimony oxide.
Phosphorus and phosphoro-nitrogenated derivatives are known to improve the fire resistance of many flammable materials. Austrian Patent 369,406 discloses salts of 1-hydroxyethylphosphonic acid and heterocyclic amines for flame retarding plastics such as polyolefins.

The ARBUZOV reaction for obtaining the diesters is generally carried out by refluxing the mixture of halide and phosphite. optionally in an inert solvent and in particular an aromatic hydrocarbon such as benzene, toluene, xylene. After a suitable contact time between the reagents.
Le diester brut ainsi isolé est ensuite purifié par toute technique appropriée.the reaction medium is subjected to distillation in order to eliminate the volatile compounds that it contains and to obtain the diester as distillation bottoms. The crude diester thus isolated is then purified by any appropriate technique.
The MICHAELIS-BECKER reaction for obtaining the diesters is generally carried out under cold conditions in an ethanolic medium.
After cooling, filtered to remove sodium halide, the alcohol is removed under reduced pressure. It is taken up in distilled water in order to eliminate the residual sodium halide. The insoluble dialkyl alkylphosphonate decants. The diester isolated by decantation or extraction is then purified by any appropriate technique.

Example 2 n-Ethyl octylphosphonate and melamine
In a 1 liter reactor, equipped with agitation and a condenser. 500 ml of absolute ethanol, 100 g of diethyl octylphosphonate (0.40 mol) and 22.5 g of potassium hydroxide are introduced.
The resulting solution is refluxed for 12 hours.
The solvent is then evaporated under reduced pressure and then the salt is dissolved in 200 ml of 10% HCl. The hemiester disappears on the surface. It is extracted with ether and then the solvent is evaporated off under reduced pressure.
The ethyl n-octylphosphonate obtained is dissolved in 500 ml of absolute ethanol. To the solution obtained is added 50.5 g of melamine. A solution is obtained which is brought to reflux for 2 hours.
