Abstract

The invention relates to a device intended for protecting the pulp of the fingers of people handling needles for medical use. It consists of a polygonal collar 1, slightly conical 2, which is used for guiding the needle, bringing it to its cover orifice. According to the invention, "single tip" needles have a cover and therefore a protective collar, "double point" needles have two covers and two protective collars. The device according to the invention prevents the medical or paramedical technician from accidentally inoculating himself with the viruses present on contaminated needles.

 The present invention relates to a device intended to protect the pulp of the fingers of persons handling needles for medical use. Without certain precautions with contaminated needles, users are exposed to many viral diseases if an injury occurs during handling. The repetitive, daily act, the moment of inattention can lead to accidents with serious consequences (accidental innoculation of the hepatitis B virus, of AIDS ...).

 Indeed, the medical or paramedical technician using these needles often risks pricking himself upon reintroduction in the cap either at the end of use or during the operation if the operation is done in several stages. Plastic caps do not guarantee safe handling.

 The device according to the invention overcomes this drawback. It has on the plastic sheath a collar of the same material, a collar which is an integral part and which is molded at the same time as the sheath.

According to the preferred embodiment the collar is polygonal (fig. 1). This is to prevent the case from rolling over the work table or sterile field. This collar has a thickness of approximately 0.5 mm (fig 2), it is slightly conical which protects the pulp of the fingers and forms a guide for the needle by bringing it towards the orifice of its cap. The diagonal passing through the center is 3 cm.

 There are two types of medical needles to protect. For simplicity we will call them: "single point" needles and "double point" needles.

 The "single point" needles attach directly to the body of the syringe containing the liquid. They have only one bevel cut point and one sheath. So for these a single protective collar is sufficient fig. 3.

 The "double pointed" needles are screwed onto the body of the syringe containing the liquid cartridge. One of the points enters this cartridge, the other is used for injection. They therefore have two points cut at a bevel and two sleeves. For these two protective flanges are necessary (one per cap) fig 4.

 According to a variant, the collar can remain independent and removable (fig 5). A hole in its center, of a precise diameter allows to fit the cap. As all the caps are slightly tapered, the flange is force-fitted and provides the same type of protection fig. 3 and 4. The diameter of the hole will vary depending on that of the sleeve and will be slightly smaller to ensure correct blocking.

In all cases the sheath and its collar present as in fig. 6 in perspective.

Claims (6)

1) Device for protecting the fingers of people using needles with drug injection, characterized in that it consists of at least one collar associated with a needle sheath. 2) Device according to claim 1, characterized in qui'il consists of a single flange and a single sheath adapted on the single point bevelled with a needle "single point".  3) Device according to claim 1, characterized in that it consists of two flanges and two sleeves adapted to the two points cut at a bevel with a "double point" needle, one point penetrating into the liquid capsule, the other serving for the injection of this liquid. 4) Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the collar is polygonal. 5) Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the collar has a slight taper on the needle insertion orifice side. 6) Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the flange is provided with a central orifice, with a diameter suitable for the fitting of the conical sheath.
