Abstract

Movable and removable additional supports for the handlebar of a racing bike and touring bike. The invention relates to a support device which it is possible to add to the handlebar of bicycles fitted with a three-position bend so as to allow multiple other grips on the steering by changing the position of the hands giving rise to changes in position of the torso. The device is made up of two sets (one per hand) which the cyclist arranges at will between the stem and the brake levers. Each set comprises a collar 1 and a clamping device essentially made up of a tensioner 2, a clamping support 4, and a manoeuvring handle 5. The two supports are lightweight, can be manoeuvred without getting off the machine and installed without tools and without dismantling the stem or the brake levers.

The present invention constitutes a bicycle accessory. Its purpose is to have movable and removable supports on the handlebars (or handlebars) of racing and touring bicycles.

The type of hanger currently on the market is said to have three hand positions. One is on the upper part, horizontal, orthogonal to the direction of travel, the second on the brake handles or cocottes, the third on the lower part, in the direction of travel.

The two supports that are the subject of the invention allow a large number of other positions of the cyclist's hands and body depending on the location and the orientation that is assigned to them between the stem and the casseroles.

The variety of positions of the cyclist's hands and body that can be adopted while walking reduces the risk of the appearance of pain or cramps in the hands, forearms and back, due to the permanence of a position in the over time.

The advantage of the supports, objects of the invention, lies in the fact that they can be installed and dismantled without tools, at any time, even during the journey.

Placing them in place does not require the disassembly of the brake handles, nor the removal of the adhesive tape which generally surrounds the hanger.

Another advantage, they are, once installed, mobile without the cyclist having to get off the machine.

They allow, among other positions, that offered by the flat handlebar, which requires a wider spread of the arms and a straightened back, which promote the cyclist's breathing.

They also give the possibility of adopting the position permitted by the "Delta" handlebars used by cyclists during "time trial" events.

Finally, judiciously oriented at the discretion of the cyclist, they can serve as support for the forearms when the hands are on the casseroles, the bust close to the horizontal and the cyclist seated on the saddle.

The device includes two supports per bicycle, one for each hand.

 It includes six pieces per support.

Figure 1 shows the elevational view without indication of the hidden parts to lighten the drawing.

Figure 2 shows the assembly of a support in the mounted position, in a section orthogonal to the generatrices of the hanger.

FIG. 3 represents a variant of the assembly formed by the parts (5) and (6) if, instead of a part (5) made of metal (steel or duralumin), the latter is made of hard plastic molded by injection. The part (5 bis) then includes a steel or brass barrel embedded in the mass during molding.

The part (1) is a steel collar which surrounds about two thirds of the hanger tube, Figures 2 and 5.

The part (2) is the tensioner of the steel collar, Figures 2 and 4.

The part (3) is a low nut which prevents the tensioner from detaching from the collar when the position of the device changes.

The part (4), taken up in detail in FIGS. 6 to 11, plate 2/2, is made of hard plastic injection molded. It serves as a clamping support for the handle (5), on the one hand, for an aesthetic and functional connection between the handle and the hanger, on the other hand, and finally as a cover for the clamping system.

The part (5) is the handle which, by rotation, allows the tightening and the tightening of the collar. It is made of steel, duralumin or hard injected plastic.

When the handle is made of steel or duralumin, it is covered with a flexible plastic sleeve (6), one of the ends of which is the mouth, in order to avoid the possible penetration of a part of the body in the event of the cyclist falling. . This sleeve (6) is force fitted on the handle, it remains integral with it because of its elasticity. I1 is striated on its outer part to allow a good grip.

When the handle is made of plastic (5 Bii, Figure 3, it is closed by a plug also made of plastic (6 Bii, force-fitted, or even glued. It is striated on its outer part for a good grip.

The mounting of the support is carried out as follows - Passage of the threaded part of the tensioner (2) in one of the openings
of the collar (1).

- Passage of the collar around the hanger tube.

- Approximation of the two ends of the collar and passage of the tensioner
in the other opening of the collar.

- Installation of the nut (3), tightening fully, by hand.

- Installation of the support-cache (4).

- Screwing of the handle provided, from manufacture, with the sleeve or
cap as appropriate.

The pieces (4, 6, 5 bis) and (6 bii are made of plastic, so they can be colored in different shades to match the adhesive tapes that most often surround the hanger tubes.

This invention can be produced in large series by the bicycle industry. Its manufacture poses no technical problem and the materials it requires are most commonly used by said industry.

1) Additional movable and removable support device for handlebars  racing bicycle and touring bicycle characterized in that it  comprises a fixing collar (1), a collar tensioner (2), a  bottom nut (3), clamping support (4), clamping handle (5)  or (5a) and a striated sleeve (6) or a plug (6a) depending on the  case. 2) Device according to claim 1 characterized in that the collar  (1) and the tensioner (2) are not integral with each other. 3) Device according to claim 2 characterized in that the nut  (3) makes integral the collar (1) and the tensioner (2) during the  loosening by the handle (5) or (5 bis). 4) Device according to claims 1, 2 and 3 characterized in that  the clamping support (4), in addition to this function, serves as a connection  aesthetic and functional between the handle and the handlebars as well as  cover and protection of the clamping system. 5) Device according to claim 1 characterized in that the handle  clamp is covered with a ribbed sleeve (6) closing off the tube. 6) Device according to claim 1, variant of claim 5,  characterized in that the plastic handle (5 bis)  includes a threaded barrel taken in the mass and a plug (6 bis)  glued or press fitted.
