Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a rotary connector designed as a new means of connecting an air-gas torch to its flexible fuel supply hose. In general, the handle of this type of blowtorch consists of a handle traversed longitudinally by a metal tube carrying on one side a gas control device and on the other a corrugated pipe-holder socket permanently or removably attached for receive the supply hose which is held in place by a hose clamp. During use, all the movements of the handle are transmitted to the supply hose which reacts to torsional forces on the one hand by winding on itself and on the other hand by slowing down the movements of said handle, because its rigidity increases with torsion, which greatly annoys the operator. To remedy these drawbacks, a first solution has been proposed; it is the handle with a rotating tap in which the pipe-holder sleeve has been replaced by the gas control device to which a metal tube has been added passing through the handle to end in an injector so that this assembly connected to the supply hose can rotate freely relative to said handle integral with the burner. The freedom to rotate the hose relative to the handle of the handle is acquired at the cost of several new drawbacks: on the one hand the injector is no longer interchangeable because it was integrated at the end of the rotating tube passing through the handle and on the other hand the gas control device is difficult to operate because in addition to being placed at the rear of the handle so as not to create any problem d 'waterproofing5 the valve is rotating relative to the latter, which requires the user to use both hands to vary the intensity of the flame during work.
The present invention also proposes to remedy the major drawbacks of the conventional handle, but without replacing them with others which, in the case of the handle with a rotary tap, are just as troublesome. The swivel fitting object of the invention is an accessory which can be added to any conventional handle at the level of the hose-holder socket provided that the latter is removable and fixed by a threaded nut to a standardized diameter.
In what follows, the invention is explained in detail using drawings representing only one embodiment given by way of non-limiting example.
- Figure 1 is a sectional view of an aero torch handle

object of the invention.
tournant.- Figure 2 is an enlargement of the sectional view of the connector
turning.
- Figure 3 is a side view of the body of the rotary connector.
perpendiculaire à l'axe d'entrée.- Figure 4 shows the section of the body along a plane AA
perpendicular to the entry axis.
Referring to FIG. 1 which presents a conventional aero-gas torch handle fitted with the rotary connector according to the invention, it can be seen that said connector is fixed to a nipple (1) which by means of a nut ( 2) and a washer (3) bears on the rear shoulder (4) of the handle (5) to exert on the connecting tube (6) the tensile force necessary for blocking the body of the control tap (7) against the edge (8) of its hexagonal housing (9) located at 1.! other end of said handle. The rotary connector being a female-female connector with a male inlet having the same internal and external dimensions as those of the nipple inlet (1), its setting. place on a conventional handle between the latter and the supply hose (10) is reduced to a nut unscrewing operation followed by two screw connections.
In FIG. 2 which represents on a scale double that of FIG. 1 the rotary coupling object of the invention, it can be seen that it comprises a body (11) rotating in a bore (12) of a socket (13) with a spherical base (14) having a shoulder (15) by which it is retained against the handle of the torch by tightening the connection nut (16). Thus the spherical base (14) of the sleeve (13) coming into contact with the conical surface of the nipple (1) provides the necessary seal # to prevent the combustible fluid from escaping along the threads of the nut connection (16) or at its inner base (22). As for the seal between the cylindrical pivot (20) of the body (ll) and the bore (12) of the do # uille (13) -elle is ensured by a seal placed in: the annular groove (21) of said pinot which is # immobilized in translation in the sleeve by a retaining means such as an elastic ring (18) placed in a second annular groove (19) . in order to be able to bear on the nose of the spherical base (14). The elastic ring (18) not being a sealing element, the fluid circulating in the distributor of the body. (1 # 1) could escape outside 9 taking advantage of the play existing between the pivot and the bushing if not prevented by the presence of the O-ring (17).
This swivel fitting is so compact that the diameter of the body (îi) is less than or equal to the nominal diameter of the thread of the connection nut (16). The axis of the male inlet (23) of the rotary connector and the axis of symmetry of the cylindrical pivot (20) make an angle (OX, #) having a value between 550 and 650 to give maximum maneuverability to the torch for w of such a fitting. However, it is possible to envisage other values between 0 and 900 for other applications.
Among the three operations necessary for the fitting of the fitting on our conventional blowtorch sleeves, the screwing of the nut of the hose socket on the body of said fitting requires the immobilization of the latter by any appropriate means. The open-end wrench being one of the most widespread tools, two immobilization plates (24), (25) are provided on the sides of the body which are seen in FIGS. 3 and 4 and whose spacing corresponds to a standardized key opening.
Thanks to this connection on the one hand the flexible no longer winds on itself because it does not undergo any more torsion whatever the movements that the user imposes on the handle of the torch and on the other hand as the friction s opposing the rotation of the pivot (20) in the sleeve (13) are very low, the user practically no longer perceives the rigidity of the hose, which results in greater ease of use and in a significant reduction in the tired.
The field of application of the rotary coupling object of the invention is that of air-gas torches.
