Process for the purification of a styrene feedstock containing phenylacetylene by selective hydrogenation of the latter, in which the said feedstock in the liquid phase is reacted with hydrogen in contact with a catalyst, characterised in that the catalyst contains a support and from 0.05 to 5 % by weight of palladium and from 0.02 to 2 % by weight of gold.
