Abstract

The alternator comprises a rotor (4) made up of two polar elements made up of inward facing 'C' shaped laminations. On the outer end of at least one of the laminations is attached a centrifugal fan formed from a disc (7a). The fan disc has initially a central convex region, with the centre higher than the edges. When the rotor is assembled the edges of the fan disc are initially in contact with the outer end of the pole assembly (4b). Then the centre of the fan disc is deflected so that the entire surface of the fan disc is in contact with the end face of the pole assembly. ADVANTAGE - Reduced vibration in alternator assemblies through fixing of fan disc to rotor, but without requiring soldering at assembly, thereby simplifying and speeding production.
