Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to the field of television and cinema and especially relates to the editing of images shot in high definition (1,125 lines).
It is known that the higher the number of lines, the greater the definition and the better the image.
We also know that making a film requires different stages: first the shooting, then the editing which ensures the final version. However, editing is generally a fairly long operation, since it is a question of choosing from the images shot, those which will ultimately be retained, their duration and the order in which they will be placed.
On the other hand, the "high definition" material designated hereafter by HO, is a very rare material (some copies in the world) and by the same very expensive. It is therefore desirable not to immobilize it for too long and to make it as profitable as possible.
The essential object of the invention is to produce and edit HD image bands via low definition video (BD or 525 lines) so as to minimize the time of use of HO devices including, in particular, video recorders and monitors.
According to the new method of the invention, the editing and shaping of HD images is carried out according to the sequence of the following operations phases: conversion of HD images into BD images then recording. of these; b) editing BD images then c) converting BD images into HD images.
BD, via un moniteur de contrôle, sur un magnétoscope conventionnel ce dernier recevant parallèlement, par l'intermédiaire d'un générateur, lecteur de temps codé, des signaux de repère et durée de chaque image émanant du magnétoscope HD.In accordance with the first step of the said process, the HD images read on a monitor and from a video recorder are transferred optically, by means of a BD camera, then the images are recorded.
BD, via a control monitor, on a conventional video recorder, the latter receiving in parallel, via a generator, coded time reader, reference signals and duration of each image emanating from the HD video recorder.
Editing is carried out by a BD reading VCR and then another BD recording VCR, the two devices being linked to an editing table and a control monitor.
According to another characteristic of the invention, to carry out the aforementioned phase c), the BD images are re-read by a conventional video recorder which transmits, via said generator, encoded time height, the mounting information to a first computer connected to a printer whose coded references are transmitted to a second HO computer known as assembly receiving, moreover, the data from the HO video recorder.
The invention will be better understood on reading the description given below with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate operating diagrams of a process according to the invention and in which
- Figure 1 shows the step of converting HO images to BD images
- Figure 2 shows the step of mounting BD images; and
- Figure 3 shows the image shaping step
BD in HO images.
As illustrated in the diagram in FIG. 1, an HO video recorder (1) reads the shots previously shot in high definition (1,125 lines) and transmits them to an HO monitor (2).
A BD camera (3) (for example of the JVC, NTSC type) records the image directly on the monitor (2). The video signal from the camera is transmitted, via a low definition control monitor (4) to a conventional video recorder (5) (for example of the 1/2 inch NTSC Super Beta type) on a cassette, one track of which receives in parallel, from the video recorder (1) via a coded time reader generator (6), a coded time signal making it possible to identify each image as well as its duration, in other words the address of each image.
Once this result has been obtained, assembly can be carried out inexpensively and without immobilizing the high definition equipment. Indeed, the cassette recorded by the video recorder (5) is a conventional cassette that can be read by a commercial video recorder 525 lines.
To carry out the assembly in accordance with figure 2 annexed, it is then necessary to have two identical video recorders, one (7) being used for reading and the other (8) for recording
These VCRs can also be 1/2 inch NTSC type
Super Beta. The video signal and the coded time signal come out of the video recorder (7), which enter the video recorder (8), the first directly, the second via the generator, coded time reader (6).
The two video recorders (7) and (8) are also linked together via an editing table (9) and a monitor (4 ') monitors the recording of the video recorder (8).
So we can select the images we want to keep, the order in which we want to position them and the duration of each one. It is possible to use a sequence already edited for reading to modify it. This process can be used as long as the user needs it.
In accordance with the illustration in FIG. 3, the cassette obtained of the BD type is then replayed by a conventional video recorder (5), for example of the Super Beta type, which is connected to a computer (11) via a coded time reader generator (16). The computer (11) outputs to a printer / the list of the different mounting points and their coded time reference.
Finally a high definition editing computer (13), receiving on the one hand the information coming from the video recorder (1) and on the other hand that provided by the printer (12), conforms the 525 lines editing on the high definition tapes 1 125 lines.
We see that, thanks to this process, the high definition material is immobilized only on the one hand to produce the 525-line cassette used for editing and on the other hand to make the comparison between the initial film and the editing whose data are provided by the printer, which represents a relatively short time compared to that required to make the film. It is moreover obvious that, during stage b) of assembly, said high definition material can be used for another use, therefore being profitable as much as possible.
The method of the invention, as described above, can be implemented for all types of editing and conformation of HO images after taking pictures using cameras type 1 125 lines. The applications are multiple and concern, first of all, of course cinema, television and similar uses.
