Abstract

This process has been developed for the production of hollow articles of average and large size from reinforced or non-reinforced thermosetting materials. The moulds in 2 or more parts are, after filling with the predetermined quantity of thermosetting material (which is premixed manually or in a low-pressure injection machine) set into rotation about two perpendicular axes; during this rotation, the thermosetting material (in the liquid state) is distributed uniformly over the entire internal surface of the mould, polymerisation enabling the material to gel and then to cure. This process uses relatively simple equipment: the moulds may be made from laminated or cast resins or manufactured from metal (steel, cast iron, light alloys, etc.). This process permits rates of the order of 1 to 6 parts per hour; it enables parts to be obtained with an external appearance with a very high finish, without shrinkage cavities (blistering). Applications: hollow parts requiring an external appearance of very high finish, such as body panels (tailgates, doors), sports articles, average- and large- capacity tanks, etc.
