Abstract
Description
FOR THE PRODUCTION OF NEW FOODS
FOR DERATIZATION, WITH INCORPORATION OF A TAT
The present invention relates to a method for the preparation of novel foods for use in deratting, with incorporation of a bait.
As is well known, the most common form of rodent control, especially of rats and mice, is to spread food to and from areas inhabited by these animals. specially prepared for this purpose and generally containing an edible substance and a poison, intimately mixed with this substance and capable of causing, more or less quickly, the death of the rodent which consumed this mixture. To be effective, these foods must satisfy an important set of requirements, mainly due to the high degree of mistrust and sensitivity of the animals involved, which are easily repelled by the smell and / or the appearance of the mixture and which occurs, in particular, in front of the rapid death of an animal-after consumption of the food or as a result of any acute discomfort felt after the consumption of the food. a non-lethal dose of this food, for example, that it has been disturbed during its meal or that its appetite has been met prematurely. Some of these disadvantages have been offset to some extent by the use of poisonous anticoagulant products that cause the death of animals long after the food has been consumed and, therefore, without could have established a relationship between this consumption and death, acute malaise or infirmity, which subsequently occurred. Moreover, to cause the death of a rat, it must have absorbed a certain amount of poison in one or more shots. In any case, we understand that the first and essential condition for a rat poison to be effective, it is that the food is attractive to rodents and this attraction continues for as long as possible. This quality is particularly important when anticoagulants are used because the ingestion of these in non-lethal quantities gives rise to the appearance, in animals, of resistance or immunity to the active ingredient of the food, which resistances In addition, in this connection it should be borne in mind that rodents have a high self-limiting capacity that in the places where they live, and save in exceptional circumstances, they always exist in proportion to the quantity of food at their disposal, to which they are already accustomed.
Of course, the food or rat poison must compete with these usual foods available to animals; therefore, it will be rejected, or consumed in insufficient quantity, if it does not present a special attraction or if it does not respond to a deficiency or a defect in the dietary balance of these animals. This is particularly serious in places where there is a great abundance and variety of foods, such as barns, silos, food stores, and so on. In these places the usual rat poisonous on the market appear unattractive to rodents, so that they are not consumed or they are not consumed in sufficient quantities to cause death, which gives rise to phenomena of resistance or immunization which has just been mentioned.
Another problem which arises in the use of rat poisons consists in the lack of stability, in the presence of the atmospheric agents, of the chemical components which constitute them. Thus, for example, all the known rat poisons have, to a greater or lesser degree, a water stability defect, which implies a loss of activity in contact with the moisture; the treated products are easily driven and dispersed by the wind, which makes it necessary to spread them in large quantities per unit of surface to be treated; the majority of rat poisons in contact with moisture form lumps and harden, which makes them less attractive to rodents, etc.
The novel foods obtained by the process which is the subject of the present invention fully satisfy the essential requirements which a rat poison must meet to be fully effective. On the one hand, in fact, said rodenticide is highly attractive to rodents, so that they prefer it to their usual foods and consume it in priority and, on the other hand, it has very good properties of duration, and conservation of its activity, in time and under adverse weather conditions.
In their first aspect mentioned above, it should be noted that the currently known rat poisons are usually solid granules made from cereals,
sprinkled especially in places, like gran
animals, silos, etc., in which rats have
the same type of products: in any case these granules
never have a particular attraction for the animals concerned.
To avoid this serious inconvenience, it is
recently appeared on the rat poison
what is incorporated a bait of a sexual nature or
determined aromas. However, we could not demonstrate
that these so-called baits actually present a
attractive to rats, but they exercise. rather a
subjective action on the buyer.
fine. And under the second aspect mentioned above, that is to say
with regard to the instability of the common rat poison
in contact with water, moisture, etc., we have already pre
in the trade of rat poison mites
incorporating substances derived from petroleum
of the type of paraffin. We then realized that these
substances reduce the attractiveness of rat poison
to the point of making the latter indifferent to the ani
targeted ills, who abandon it, to the point of provoking
the failure of the rat treatment. In addition, it is necessary
take into account that some of the active ingredients
commonly used, are incompatible with paraf
Fine.
The present invention is essential

of sun, or possibly other sources of heat, and, on the other hand, to incorporate in these fats, the preserving and disinfecting agents necessary so that the compound remains unaltered for months, whatever the hardness of the conditions to which he will be subjected.
Animal fats have a high degree of attractiveness on rodents and allow to obtain excellent results in the rat control of places with competing elements, such as barns, silos, etc., in which, because of the Abundance and variety of foods, the usual rat poisons do not excite the appetite of rodents. Moreover, the abovementioned fats, treated in accordance with the present invention, are very resistant to cleaning agents and, in particular, to water and moisture, thus keeping the attractiveness and toxicity of the product intact for a long time. which, consequently, is very effective for the control of sewers, drains and other places wet or beaten by rain or other bad weather.
According to the process which is the subject of the present invention, for the manufacture of the rat poison, it starts from a mixture of animal fats to which, in a preliminary phase and in order to raise the melting point, a proportion of synthetic fats is added. which give the mixture the desired homogeneity by mechanical means. This homogeneous mass is continued by heating in a water bath, to a temperature slightly above the melting point (generally between 450 and 550 centigrade) and at this stage and stirring the product is added, from 0.005 to 0 , 01% by weight, of preserving and disinfecting materials.
This mass is maintained, or is heated again, to a temperature above the melting point, and still at this temperature, it is added, with stirring, with 50 to 90% by weight of whole or ground cereals and it continues to agitate the mass until obtaining complete homogeneity. An active ingredient is added to the assembly, always by heating and stirring it; and in the final phase, this melt is poured into molds and cooled to ambient solidification temperature, and a solid mass is obtained which can be used directly. For this purpose, this mass can be simply divided into portions or treated to confer a granular structure.
The preservative and disinfecting materials which are added to animal fat, as just indicated, may, as is logical, be of any type and of such a composition as to sufficiently guarantee the preservation of the product. Nevertheless, according to an accessory characteristic of the invention, these materials will belong to the group comprising chlorates, iodinated products, phenols, glycols, alcohols and alkaline salts.
Furthermore, it is understood that the excipients obtained according to the present invention will be compatible with all the active ingredients normally used to cause death of rodents.
By this process, three types of bait are differentiated between them by the different amounts of fat in their composition and increasing the percentage of fat for the use of baits in wetter places such as sewers and pipelines. .
The least fat rat poison is in the form of a granular solid and in it, the purpose of fat is to exert an attractive effect on rats.
The following rats in the quantity of fat, is in the form of pellets, which can be 50 to 200 grams and are used in places with a certain degree of humidity.
The fattier raticide is in the form of a compact block, prepared in molds of the type of polyethylene strips, divided into cells to form portions of 50 to 500 grams. These cells can be provided inside a tip so that taking shape, the blocks have a hole to fix them during use. This type of rodenticide can not be wasted unnecessarily by rodents or water, while common type baits are dispersed by rats or water in a proportion higher than the baits actually consumed. Thanks to all this Although this rodenticide is in principle a little more expensive than the usual rat poison, its use is in practice of a lower total cost, because of the manpower saving obtained in its implementation. in place, its stability of use and its maximum use.
In what follows are described two attraction tests with a rat poison which is the subject of the present invention.
PREMIER ESSAI
Two blocks based on coated cereals and of different sizes were produced according to the present invention. A first block constituting the bait nO 1, is said "dry" and weighing between 60 and 85 g; the other block, constituting bait No. 2, is called "fat" and weighs between 45 and 55 g.
The tested Brownies were all wild adult animals captured in the wild and acclimated for at least a month to captivity.
Two batches of 10 rats were constructed as parallel as possible, with four males and six females each, housed in individual cages.
The baits were offered in quantities exceeding the daily needs, and this during 3 days, following a preliminary period of 5 days with normal food.
- Bait No. 1: Due to the size of the blocks, only two individuals had to receive a supplement during the 3 days, and the residual weighings were only carried out at the end of the period. We therefore have individual total consumption for 3 days.
- Bait 2: the smaller blocks were more disintegrated by the rats and had to be replaced daily, which led to a daily measurement of individual consumption.
According to the OEMPP protocol, the rats were kept under observation for three weeks from the first day of intoxication.

Nevertheless, bait # 1 was significantly better accepted than bait # 2 (1.5 times).
The effectiveness of the two baits proved to be very satisfactory, having caused the death of all the individuals who had consumed, and this within conventional deadlines.
DEUXIEME ESSAI
Animals reserved for this trial were acclimated for at least three weeks in individual cages.
During the three weeks prior to day 0, the animals received feed consisting solely of pellets, the usual maintenance food being wheat, barley, bread, and pellets.
The baits were offered to Norway rats for three consecutive days at a rate of 50 grams renewed.
Residual weighings were carried out each morning to determine consumption.
The observations were made during twenty-one days, from the first day of presentation of the specialty RAZIA, animals receiving after the period of intoxication, a classic food (granules).
