Abstract

The invention relates to strength devices making it possible to use carbon fibres 1 combined with resins forming a remarkably light composite for manufacturing bicycle wheel rims. In order to eliminate the risk of the fibres bursting and causing the wheel to collapse in the event of impact the rim comprises on the outside, as a peripheral coating, a layer 6 of glass or synthetic fibres which resist impact and the friction of the brake shoes and, on the inside, a plate 7 made from glass or synthetic fibres absorbing the tension exerted by the nut 5 locking the spoke 3 and thus ensuring good cohesion of the assembly constituting the rim by compression of the carbon fibres situated between it and the layer 6.
