Abstract

The game which has been devised lies in the category of parlour games using a squared board over which two players move pieces. It requires a rectangular squared board, the "pitch" divided into two identical "sides". Two series of pieces, each having a colour, the team members, and a piece representing the "ball" are moved by the players over the squared board, the "team members" being moved in all directions and the "ball" being moved according to its position relative to the "team members". The preliminary throw of the dice determines the size of each move, one box per point. Each player, in turn, plays a "shot" comprising three "team-member" moves alternating with two "ball" moves. One of the players referees the match, but this role may be held by a third player. This game may be played as a family game or by members of social groups. In this connection, competitions can be organised between different groups.

Description

 The present invention falls into the category of board games which are practiced using a quadrille board on which two players oppose each other by moving pawns.

 The imagined game requires a rectangular grid, the "field", having 23 boxes in its length and 15 boxes in its width, that is 345 boxes in total. (See attached drawing). This grid is divided into two equal parts, the "camps", arranged on either side of the median joining the midpoints of the two lengths of the "field". Lines, located at a box set back all around the "field", determine a rectangle comprising 273 boxes, (21 boxes in length, 13 boxes in width).

On the two lengths of the rectangle are the "touch lines", and on the two widths the "goal lines". (See the attached drawing where the four lines in question appear in stronger lines). On each "goal line" and in the middle, a space of 5 boxes, limited by two crosses, represents the "goals" of each "side". At the four corners of the rectangle, four crosses mark the location of the "corner stakes" or "corner". In the center of the "field" is drawn a "central circle" having for center the middle of the central box and for diameter the width of five boxes. The central box is marked with the letter E, and in each of the "camps", 8 boxes have a number from 1 to 6, the number 5 appearing on three boxes, and 5 boxes of letters, ie 2 C, 2 D, 1 P.

 Each player has 6 pawns numbered from 1 to 6 who are his "teammates", each set of six pawns being of different color. A thirteenth pawn, different from the twelve others, represents the "balloon".  The movements of the "team members" and the "balloon" are made from box to box on the grid, the same movement comprising one or more boxes. To be able to move the "ball" a player must have one of his "teammates" in contact with it. But, as an exception to these general principles, certain provisions of the rules of the game provide, in special cases, for changes in the direction as well as in the direction of movement of the "team members" and the "ball".

 The game is heavy with "blows". A "stroke" comprises three movements of one or more "team members", alternating with two movements of the "ball". At the end of the "stroke" the player gives up his turn to the opponent.

But, in application of certain provisions of the rules of the game, the "youp" can start with an additional displacement of the "ball", or else the "stroke" can be shortened.

 One of the players ensures the direction of the game, that is to say plays the role of arbiter, by controlling the normal course of the various operations composing the "stroke", by ensuring the alternation of the turns of play, signaling faults, following the score.

 This role of referee can be entrusted to a third player. The three participants then meet in three equal length games played successively, each of them arbitrating a game. At the end of the three games, a point classification based on the number of games won or lost is established between the players.

 This sport-inspired game develops the spirit of competition.

In addition, it combines the reflection necessary for the development of a game tactic, and the unexpected arising from the use of dice. It can therefore distract young and old alike, whether in the family or in larger social groups. However, in the latter context, a wider use may be envisaged intended to increase the spirit of competition and to create sustained human or social relationships. Pursuant to the provisions of the game provided for in the preceding paragraph, three teams comprising an equal number of members may be formed from members of a social group or students of an educational establishment. Groups of three players are formed by taking a member from each team.
In each group, the three players successively play three games in which, in turn, each player plays the role of arbiter. At the end of these three parts a classification by points is established in each group.

All groups playing simultaneously, when they have all finished their games, the points obtained by each member of a team in the group where he played are totaled by team, which allows the classification of these and designates the winner of the competition. Different social groups or schools can each constitute a team. At the end of the meeting of the three teams, the one with the most sharp points makes its group or its school triumph.
