L'invention concerne un outil destiné à effectuer le contrôle des tubes dans une presse d'épreuve pour tubes au moyen d'une pression de liquide. Par la demande de brevet allemande P 33 07 813, on connaît un outil de ce type qui comprend un boîtier par un côté duquel 1 'extrémité du tube à contrôler est emmanchée et qui est sollicité, de l'autre côté, au moyen d'un fluide sous pression introduit à l'intérieur du tube, cependant qu'il est prévu dans le boîtier, coaxialement au tube à contrôler, un évidement dans lequel est disposée une bague d'étanchéité élastique entourant le tube, ladite bague étant susceptible d'être déformee de manière que sa face interne dirigée vers le tube puisse être appliquée à joint étanche contre la périphérie extérieure de ce tube.Sur le côté de la bague d'étanchéité qui est le plus éloigné de l'ex trémité du tube emmanchée, il est prévu à l'interieur du boî- tier une gorge circonférentielle coaxiale au tube dans laquelle est encastrée une bague d'appui axial de diamètre variable, dont la partie frontale, qui emerge de la gorge et qui est di rivée vers la garniture d'étanchéité élastique, donne appui à cette dernière à l'encontre des forces axiales. La bague d'appui axial est composée de segments d'appui séparés radialement, espacés les uns des autres et qui peuvent se déplacer les uns par rapport aux autres par mouvement radial.Ces segments peuvent être rapproches au moyen d'une manchette placée autour des segments, guidée à joint étanché dans la gorge et qui peut être sollicitée hydrauliquement et d'autre part ils peuvent être écartés mécaniquement.
