Abstract

a. Device making it possible for any user to write, on a document, figures called "standard" figures which can be read by an automatic machine. b. Figures "8" in a specified graphics appear at a specified site on the document. The figure "8" has the feature of being able to serve for tracing all the figures from 0 to 9 and the user makes use of it, a little like a writing pattern, in order to write the figures desired. c. The invention can be used especially to write the five figures of the postal code on an envelope or postcard, the figures on the order forms of mail order companies, the figures on any document likely to be read by an automatic machine.

Description

 The present invention allows any user to write so-called "standard" figures from 0 to 9, in a well-defined location, thanks to a prefiguration of these figures, in all cases where a reading of 0% figures by automatic machine is possible. In particular, it allows any user to write the 5 digits of the postal code on an envelope or even a postcard specially provided for this purpose, in so-called standard writing at the place determined by the PTT I1 is quite obvious that these digits have a very precise shape and dimension.

 The P.T.T.s defined precise standards concerning the correct location, in particular on a standard envelope in common use in II4 X I62 mm format, the name and address of the correspondent, the postal code and the post office distributor. To help the user, we have made available stencils to position on the envelope, which define these different areas. Currently, the user can find envelopes on which appear, on the front, as soon as the fold is introduced, the different positioning frames. In the framework provided for the postal code, the indication "postal code" is written in full. For postal sorting to be carried out on an automatic machine without transcoding operation, it is necessary that the 5 digits of the code postal are positioned correctly on the envelope and we see that the stencils and envelopes mentioned above allow. On the other hand, these devices do not allow the leoture by conventional automatic machine because each one makes the figures as he wishes and only very sophisticated machines manage to identify these figures compared to standard writing.

 The present invention therefore makes it possible to avoid these drawbacks and to improve, among other things, the aforementioned envelopes. First of all, in the case of the postal code, each of the 5 digits must have a double position: precise in the frame provided, have the same graphics and the same dimension. It suffices to display within the postal code 5 digits 8 followed by a precise graphics which will guide the user to read the desired digits on them. The postal code can then be read by a relatively simple automatic mail sorting machine.

 Certain calculators and certain quartz alarm clocks in particular use graphics numbers 0 to 9 such that each digit is registered in the basic digit 8 which is composed of 7 half-strokes.

 Figure I defines the graphics of the figures to be used to obtain a so-called "standard" writing. The numbers 0, I, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9 use from 2 to 6 of the 7 half-strokes of the number 8. With this model, the user has no difficulty in tracing, on the figures prefigured by figures 8 on the said document, the desired figures which will have the desired shape and size. The same result can be obtained as if the user had a typewriter or a normographer whose use would be too tedious.

 Figure 2 shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the invention. It is a standard envelope on which clearly appear in dotted 5 numbers 8 in the framework provided by the P.T.T. for the postal code. Different methods can be used to bring up these figures: white reserves on a dark background, fine or solid lines, dotted lines, any system allowing the result to be obtained. We can use a conventional or inactinic printing ink, in short an ink which does not compromise the reading of the figures by the automatic machine. The objective is therefore to make appear permanently readable figures 8 whose user will use it as a normographer since it will trace in the pen the desired figures on the figures 8. We can achieve the same result by sliding in the envelope, provided that it is sufficiently transparent, a sheet or a carton, of dimensions slightly smaller than the envelope, on which 5 figures 8 have been traced.

 Figure 3 shows, by way of example, the registration of the postal code 72I00 obtained from the number 88888.

 This device which is the subject of the invention can be used in all cases where it is necessary or desirable to write figures of a specific size and shape in a defined location. In addition to the use for the postal code on envelopes and postcards, this device can be used on the purchase orders of mail-order organizations by replacing the white squares with as many digits 8, for certain administrative documents, on bank or postal checks (sums and numbers), in all cases where figures on documents are likely to be read by an automatic machine.

 T w OSItif allowing any user to describe, according to a given writing model, so-called "standard" figures in a well-defined place on a document which can in particular be read by an automatic machine, characterized by the fact that figures 8 having a graphics very precise, appear on the dit-dooument (for example 5 digits 8 for the postal code on an envelope3 or on a support to be placed under the document if it is slightly transparent.  2 - Device according to claim I characterized in that these figures 8 must appear on the document sufficiently so that the user can use them a bit like normographs, without hindering the reading of the figures plotted by the automatic machine.  3 - Device according to claim 2 characterized in that each digit from 0 to 9 uses all or part of the half-lines of the number 8 previously defined. Therefore, the user writes the figures by tracing the half-lines of the figure 8 corresponding to each.
