Abstract

The apparatus which is the subject of the invention comprises an endless flexible rope 1 forming a ring which slides over a fixed drum 2 carried by a framework, and also over two drums 3 and 3' which are fixed in rotation and linked rigidly to a pivoting shaft 4 which is also fastened to the framework, around which they can pivot. This shaft is held immobilised in various positions which varies the angle of friction (angle of resistance) of the cable over the drums and the traction force on 1 at A. This apparatus may serve for sports training in climbing a smooth rope and other muscle-development exercises.

Description

The present invention relates to an apparatus for simulating climbing on a smooth rope.

Climbing the rope, a utility exercise, has the following drawbacks for its practice: opposition of the entire mass of the practitioner's body to lift, therefore no progressiveness, which puts off the beginner - need for a room high enough to support the rope, with the difficulties that this entails.

-impossibilité pour un éducateur de se tenir pres du pratiquant pour le conseiller- danger de chute d'autant plus grave que la fatigue croit rapidement avec la hauteur d'élévation du pratiquant, qui doit encore redescendre- limitation du temps travail par la longueur de la corde - limitation de l'effort a' celui du poids l'utilisateur.- inability of an educator to stand near the practitioner for the counselor - danger of falling all the more serious as fatigue quickly increases with the height of elevation of the practitioner, which must still descend - limitation of the working time by the length of the rope - limiting the effort to that of the user's weight.

The device object of the invention avoids all these drawbacks: progressiveness, very necessary local necessary, work on the ground, unlimited working time, possible effort developed netse; uènt greater than the weight of the user.

It essentially comprises, an endless flexible rope, which slides on a fixed drum on a frame which carries it, and on two other fixed rotating drums linked rigidly to a lockable pivot axis, also carried by two bearings by the By rotating these two drums around the pivot axis, we modify the sum of the winding arcs of the rope on all the towers. As a result, the tensile force on one of the strands of the rope (stretched strand) varies in very large proportions, according to the elementary laws of mechanics, with this winding arc, with the only tension of ope position (soft strand) the only weight of part of the A slight eontreooids placed on the lower loop makes it possible to amplify this effort enormously.

The attached sketches specify these different points
Figure I shows a fixed drum on which a flexible link slides in the direction of the arrow. If T and t are the forces which act on the ends of this link, f being the coefficient of friction link / drum and e the base of natural logarithnes, we have the classical relation: T = t esB
Figure 2 shows schematically a solution proposed for the device: the endless rope I which passes over a fixed drum 2 as well as over two other drums 3 and 3 'fixed in rotation and rigidly linked to each other and to a pivot axis 4; The overall winding angle of the rope that these drums is # = # 2 + # 3 + # 3 '
An additional sliding weight 5 can be placed on the lower loop of the rope.

Figure 3 shows schematically a variant of the previous solution: the cable tension upstream of the fixed drum 2 is given by the variable clamping of the rope between two jaws 7. The drum 2 can also be free to rotate.

FIG. 4 shows another variant of the solutions presented by the previous ones: the drum 2 is movable in rotation; the rope I is secured to the drum 2 by a winding of several turns on it; the drum 2 is pinched between two jaws 6 which oppose a braking torque to the rotation of the drum by means of a spring with variable tension which applies a force F to the friction surfaces of these jaws.

La figure 5 représente un ensemble suivant schéma de la figure 2 avec son ossature support 8 et plancher autonome, conportant des sangles 9 fixés rigidement au planche à oroiirnité de la oartie vivant de la corde où se tient l'utilisateur.FIG. 5 represents an assembly according to the diagram of FIG. 2 with its support frame 8 and autonomous floor, comprising straps 9 rigidly fixed to the board with the orientation of the living part of the rope where the user stands.

The device which is the subject of the invention preferably consists, without this being a limiting condition, of an endless rope, flexible rope, opposing a sliding force to the manual traction force T on one of its strands (fig 2) This rope Dasse on a drum 2 fixed in rotation, carried nar a frame 8 - fig 5, and on two other drums 3 and 3 ', rigidly connected to each other and to a pivot axis 4 which norte them via a connecting piece, This axis carried nar two bearings fixed to 11 support frame 8, makes take various positions in space to the drums 3 and 3 '. A system of bl .o- suitable cage immobilizes the drums 3 and 3 "in the position chosen by the user. This system aims to vary the total angle of winding of the rope on the drums :( e = + e + e3 ) In this way the force of trac-.

tion T on a strand of the. string varies with #, the opposing force t at which
T is linked by the relation T = te, being substantially constant and equal to the self-weight of the other strand of the cord. A sliding weight 5 makes it possible to amplify
T by increasing t.

In this embodiment the winding angle # 2 can take the values: # I, 5 #, 2.5 #; (# being equal to 3, I4I6 radians).

The additive sliding lass posed on the lower strand of the coide, allows to increase notably the force T and to cover a wide range of efforts, allowing to exceed the weight of the user. In this case, in order to maintain that -this on the ground and to compensate for the difference between the force T and the weightP of this user, a pair of straps located near the vertical to the force T is fixed firmly to the floor to allow this user to slide the feet in there wedged from above, keeping it at ground level.

A variant of the previous solution consists in replacing all the pulleys 3 and 3 'with two jaws 7-fig3, adjustable toe-in, which pinch the cable creating a force t. From this variant comes another solution, in lacquer the drum 2 rotates freely around an axis, the force t then being equal to the pinch force t.

Another solution, fig 4, consists in creating an adjustable friction torque C which opposes the rotation of the drum 2 which can turn around its axis. The rope is wound in this case by several turns on the drum to create the adhesion necessary for its training and on which the cable must not slip.

The tensile force is then T - ci r. The friction torque is obtained by one or two jaws on which a force F acts which provides the friction required by a conventional screw and compression spring system.
