Abstract

The invention relates to the preliminary treatment of gold ore with a view to the production of a pulp from which the gold is extracted by the process known by the name of "carbon in pulp". In order to reduce gold losses due to the presence of mining timber in the ore and to improve the operation of the grinding and classifying equipment, the ore is subjected to a densimetric separation in a liquid medium whose density lies between that of timber and that of the ore, the sunk matter is subjected to wet grinding in order to produce a pulp and the floating matter to screening in order to recover the liquid medium containing very fine particles of ore in suspension, only a part of this suspension, which is used as a liquid separation medium, is recycled and the other part is mixed with the pulp produced by the grinder, the amount (flow) of recycled suspension being adjusted in order to keep its particle content at a predetermined value.
