Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for cleaning heat exchangers, in particular industrial refrigerants and condensers.
At present, the cleaning or descaling of these exchangers is carried out using acid or alkaline solutions containing corrosion inhibitors. Two methods are commonly used, namely that of stopping the operation of the installations comprising the exchangers to be cleaned and of circulating therein, at an appropriate rate, the cleaning or chemical descaling solution. This method has the disadvantage of requiring a large consumption of cleaning solution which is theoretically lost. Furthermore, although the shutdowns of the units in question are scheduled during a year of operation, the continuous clogging of the harnesses of the exchangers throughout their period of use greatly reduces the heat exchange coefficients. I1 slen follows, due to these poor heat exchanges, an overconsumption of the cooling liquid (which is usually industrial water3 and pressure drop phenomena.
To avoid having to stop the installations, it has already been envisaged to carry out cleaning or chemical descaling of the units during their operation by using, as coolant for the exchangers, the chemical descaling solution itself. We then immediately realize that such a method involves the consumption of chemical strippers or descalers which becomes prohibitive, especially if we want to ensure the appropriate flow of cleaning solutions to limit the rise in temperature at the outlet of l exchanger due to exothermic reactions occurring during this descaling and thermal phenomena which can affect the medium to be cooled circulating in the exchanger.
The present invention provides a simple and economical method for overcoming the drawbacks of prior techniques.
This process is essentially characterized in that it consists, after having interrupted the circulation of the normal cooling fluid, in circulating, in the bundles to be descaled or cleaned of exchangers, during their operation, in a closed circuit, a cleaning or descaling solution continuously maintained at a given temperature allowing the desired heat exchange until said cleaning or descaling is completed, then to interrupt this circulation and to restore the circulation of said normal cooling fluid.
According to a characteristic of the invention, the temperature of the cleaning or descaling medium is kept constant by the addition of a refrigerant.
According to a particular embodiment, the cleaning or descaling liquid is contained in a reserve; it is circulated in the bundle circuit of the exchanger to be cleaned or descaled by any appropriate means and the refrigerant is admitted to said reserve under the control of a regulation controlled by a thermal probe immersed in said reserve.
Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge more clearly from the description which follows, given with reference to the appended drawing representing, very schematically, an installation implementing the method of the invention.
Referring to this diagram, there is shown at 1 a heat exchanger of the industrial refrigerant or condenser type. In normal operation, the liquid to be cooled or condensed is admitted at 2 into said exchanger to exit at 3 after having passed through it. The coolant circulates against the current; it is admitted into said exchanger at 4 to come out at 5.
In accordance with the invention, when it is necessary to clean or descale the bundle of pipes of said exchanger 1, the circulation of normal coolant is interrupted by acting on the valve 6, so as to allow, in bypass, in the inlet pipe 7 by opening the valve 8, the cleaning or descaling liquid. This is contained and stored in a tank 9 of appropriate capacity and structure making it capable of withstanding any phenomenon of attack or chemical corrosion. This liquid can be admitted into the pipe 7 by the pump 10. In order to allow both cleaning or descaling of the exchanger 1 and its normal operation, it is necessary and this is what is the subject of the present invention, to maintain the temperature of the cleaning or descaling solution contained in the tank 9, at a constant level allowing the proper functioning of this exchanger. For this purpose, a thermal probe 10a immerses in the cleaning or descaling solution. This probe, depending on the desired temperature, controls and regulates the opening and closing of a valve 11 for the admission of a refrigerant 12 contained in an appropriate reservoir 13. Such a refrigerant can be constituted, either by liquid nitrogen, either by liquid carbon dioxide, or by any other suitable gas or liquefied gas inert with respect to the solution contained in the reserve 9. This refrigerant is admitted into the latter via line 14 provided any suitable means of the type allowing good dispersion of the refrigerant and rapid stabilization of the temperature of the cleaning or descaling solution.
Ce sera par exemple une rampe de pulvérisation associée ou non à un système d'agitation convenable (non représenté).This will for example be a sprayer boom associated or not with a suitable stirring system (not shown).
By proceeding in this way, we immediately realize that the calories borrowed from the liquid to be cooled admitted at 2 into the exchanger 1 during its passage through it are eliminated and conveyed by the cleaning or descaling liquid put in circulation in said exchanger thanks to the pump 10, the temperature of this cleaning or descaling solution being kept constant thanks to the contribution of the refrigerant 12.
It will also be understood that the cleaning or descaling operation can be followed, as usual, by taking samples for example at 14a of the liquid discharged at 5 and circulating in the device for implementing the invention by closing the valve of the normal circuit 15 and opening the valve of the circuit according to the invention (16).
When the cleaning or descaling is finished, it suffices to close the valve 8 as well as the valve 16 and to reopen the valves 6 and 15 to admit again the normal coolant liquid of the installation.
It goes without saying that the present invention has only been described in a purely explanatory and in no way limiting manner and that any useful modification may be made without departing from its scope.
Thus, in particular, the reserve (9) of the cleaning or descaling liquid may include any accessories making it possible to adjust the content of active products and their concentration during the cleaning or descaling operation as a function of the depletion of this cleaning or descaling liquid and the importance of the quantity of troublesome products (scale) to be removed from the tube bundle of the exchanger in question.
