Abstract

Insulating lightweight concrete consisting of vegetable waste bonded with cement, water and a hydrated magnesium silicate. Examples of application: product taking part in the making up of materials of construction, the manufacture of garden and leisure articles, industrial prefabrication intended for the building industry and for the environment, and shipbuilding.

Description

The invention relates to improvements made to concrete, insulating building materials: made of wood, cement, mixing water and an additional agent, the proportion by weight of wood being greater than that of cement, as well as processes for preparing these concretes and for the products obtained using said concretes; the improvements in question being made to the technique considered in main patent No. 7701485 of January 19, 1977 and which essentially consisted in choosing the additional agent from the catalysts allowing natural polymerization in air. As in the main patent, the concrete is composed of cement, wood waste in the majority by weight, mixing water and a catalyst allowing the polymerization of the slip.

The purpose of the present improvements is, above all, to improve the stability of the concretes under consideration and to increase their resistance.

They mainly include the following arrangements, which are preferably used in combination according to the order of entry of the components
A very high purity magnesium hydrate silicate is added to the mixing water and to the cement, in a proportion by weight of between 15 and 20% of the weight of the cement. This additional agent improves the flowability of the cement, keeps the slip in suspension which is entrained in all the cavities of the wood, allowing the mixture to attack the fibers at heart to petrify them during chemical exchanges during setting of the concrete.

A load of wood waste, or similar material serving as an aggregate, is added to this mixture in the mixer, according to the volume proportion of 200 liters for 50 kilos of cement.

Is added to the mixture already defined above, in cases where it is desired to obtain a very resistant concrete for load-bearing products or the like, a proportion of fine washed sand, or silica, of between 65 and 75% by weight percentage relative to the weight of cement. A high-strength mixed vegetable-mineral concrete is thus obtained.

To obtain a very light concrete or foam concrete, the base concrete is mixed without adding silica, the mixing time is extended to obtain a foam from the air bubbles contained in the pores of wood or plants, these bubbles remaining enclosed in the slip increase the volume of the mixture and lighten the product after setting and hardening by natural drying.

The Applicant has discovered that the remarkable absorption and absorption capacity of hydrous magnesium silicate and its very low density made this additional agent the preferred catalyst in the composition of wood concrete.

Depending on the product sought, the embodiment will be chosen to obtain a vegetable concrete or a mixed vegetable-mineral concrete or a foam concrete.
