Abstract

High voltage switchgear using arc extinction gas under pressure includes a Y shaped switch with a ribbed vertical column terminating in two ribbed switching chambers in V formation at the top. The vertical supporting column and the two chambers are filled with gas under pressure. At the base of the column is a hydraulic drive with a piston acting against two sliding rods controlling the switching members in the chambers above. Each rod slides inside a protective tube which is filled with the gas. Each tube has a straight insulated part inside the vertical column followed by a curved part inside the junction with the switching chambers, the latter part being of a resilient construction. At the termination inside the switching chamber each tube is connected to a sliding sealing member.
