Abstract

The spring has a primary steel leaf (1) with the mountings (2) at each end. Additional leaves (3,4) are clamped to the primary leaf by a bolt (7) with spacers (5,6) between the leaves. The ends of the one leaf (2) are in contact with, and rub against, the underside of the primary leaf. The ends of the other leaf (3) are similarly arranged in relation to the leaf (2). A resilient material such as rubber (8) is placed in the free spaces between the leaves, either in solid form or by injection. It is maintained in place by adhesive.

Description

Ressorts à lames paraboliques avec matériau amortissant.Parabolic leaf springs with shock absorbing material.

The present invention relates to new parabolic leaf springs comprising a damping material.

The springs formed by the assembly of blades with constant or parabolic profiles are known.

In leaf springs with constant profile there occurs, during the working of the spring, a dry inter-leaf friction which plays an important technical role because it makes it possible to ensure the damping of the oscillations of vehicles which use these springs as elements of suspension.

In parabolic profile leaf springs (springs that allow better use of steel, dry interlame friction no longer occurs at the ends of adjacent blades. As a result, the damping induced by said friction is insufficient to achieve a suitable attenuation of the oscillations.

It is therefore desirable for leaf springs with parabolic profile to have an element which provides appreciable and controllable additional damping. This is the object of the present invention.

The parabolic leaf springs according to the present invention are characterized, in order to provide additional damping, the free space between at least two consecutive parabolic leaves of said springs is filled with a rubbery or viscoelastic material.

Of course, if the spring is produced by stacking more than two blades, said rubber or viscoelastic material can fill only the space between two of these blades or can fill all the free spaces between the blades.

The following nonlimiting example describes an embodiment of the invention; this example is illustrated by the single figure which represents, in longitudinal section, a spring according to the invention.

In this figure we have represented
- in 1 the main spring leaf which ends with spring eyelets 2.2 used for attachment
- in 3 and 4 other leaf springs of parabolic shape; the two ends of the blade 2 bear (and rub) against the underside of the blade 1 and the two ends of the blade 3 bear (and rub) against the underside of the blade 2
- In 5 and 6, spacers arranged between the blades; these spacers are clamped between the blades and the blades clamped on these spacers using device 7 (rivet or device with tightening bolt).

The invention consists in depositing in at least one of the free spaces between the blades a rubber or viscoelastic damping material; this material shown diagrammatically at 8 in the single figure is indicated as filling all of the free spaces between the blades 1 and 2 on the one hand and the blades 2 and 3 on the other hand.

Any rubber material can be used according to the invention (that is to say material having viscoelastic properties) which can be easily placed, between the blades, to fill all the free spaces therein. The establishment of this rubber material can be done using a solid material suitably cut but will preferably be carried out by injecting the softened or melted material into the free spaces; in this way the whole of the free space can be easily filled and in addition the material, when it solidifies, will adhere sufficiently to the blades, thanks in particular to the use of known effective adhesives. As the rubber material can be more or less crosslinked, it will be possible, by suitable heating of the part, after placement of a noncrosslinked rubber material, to effect said crosslinking "in situ". The rubber material can for example be a Butyl rubber which also has the advantage of being resistant to corrosion and to aging.

The device according to the invention allows, while retaining the suspension its natural frequency to control the amount of damping of this suspension; one can for example, all other things being equal, reduce an oscillation of a spring to a zero amplitude in two or three oscillations instead of the five or six oscillations necessary for a spring having no rubber material.
