Abstract

The tool has a slide (22) in which a striker (23) moves from a high waiting position (H) to a low struck-home position (B). It includes a magazine (24) for the hooks (12) to be nailed, which opens at one end in the slide. A bearing block (55) projects perpendicularly to the slide bottom and bears on a tile support (11) to leave a spacing (E) between the support and the low struck-home position. The tool can at least partially overlap an already placed tile while its bearing block remains on the support.

Description

 The present invention relates generally to the laying of roofing elements, in particular slates, for the realization or repair of any roof or any cladding.

 It is more particularly the case where such a pose involves the establishment, on the corresponding support, the flights for example, hooks to nail on such a support.

 Such hooks generally comprise each respectively at the ends of a common leg or in the vicinity thereof, on the one hand a tip, which is intended to allow their nailing to the support concerned, and on the other hand a clamp, which is intended to allow to engage a cover element to be fixed to such a support.

 In a general manner also, the covering elements to be fixed on it are arranged in successive beds overlapping two by two, for example one third in height, and half in terms of their width. .

 When, once a covering element has already been laid, another covering element must be superimposed on the previous one, a hook is first put in place, with its leg extending at least partly, on the side of its clip, above the cover element already laid, for the desired cover, and with its bearing point, remote from this cover element, on the underlying support.

 In practice, in particular to limit the length of the hooks to implement, this tip is then closer to the cover element already laid, but not necessarily touch, to avoid that eventually develops, by capillary action, a water flow leading to the well-known phenomenon of siphoning.

 Whatever the case may be, it is then necessary for the roofer to push the tip of the hook thus put in place into the underlying support.

 To date, this operation is usually conducted manually, using a hammer.

 This results in various disadvantages.

 Firstly, such a manual operation necessarily involves individual handling, unit, hooks to ask.

 Such handling, which is also difficult to drive, especially when the outside temperature requires the wearing of gloves, is inevitably generating a significant loss of time.

 It also inevitably leads to a considerable loss of material, hooks frequently coming unintentionally to the roofer and then falling.

 It is therefore expensive.

 Finally, performed manually, the nailing operation is itself difficult to drive and control, and therefore requires some dexterity.

 Indeed, it is necessary, on the one hand, that the hook in place comes flush slightly by its tip the already installed cover element, for obtaining a good flatness and a good regularity for all and, on the other hand, that this covering element is not however the object of any shock, either indirectly, by the hook, or directly, by the hammer implemented, hardly to be irremediably deteriorated.

 It is not uncommon to record breaks for such cover elements during their installation.

 The present invention generally relates to an apparatus which, to ensure an automatic installation hooks to nail to a support, is likely to minimize, or even to cancel, the above disadvantages.

 This device is similar to nailing machines or staplers of the usual type.

 It thus comprises, in a manner known per se, a slide, in which is mounted movably, between a high waiting position, and a low position of action, a hammer slide, and a magazine, which is adapted to receive the hooks to be nailed, and which, at one of its ends, opens laterally into the slide, for delivery to the unit therein said hooks.

 Without others, such a device would not be suitable for the installation of hooks for roofing elements.

 Indeed, usually, the low action position of the hammer bucket slurry is substantially level with the foot of the slide in which it is movably mounted, for recess flush with the relevant support of the nail or the corresponding staple.

 As regards hooks for cover elements, such a provision could only lead, for the reasons set out above, to a systematic breakage of the latter.

 According to the invention, the nailing apparatus used is generally characterized in that, at its lower part, in line with its slideway, it has a protruding support wedge, through which it is adapted to bear on the support concerned, and which is itself adapted to maintain a determined distance between said support and the low position of action of the hammer slider.

 Thus, the depression, in the support concerned, of the hook to be laid, is advantageously systematically limited, and it does not advantageously result in any shock for the underlying cover element to which the jamb of this hook must be superimposed .

 Preferably, the support wedge which thus characterizes the apparatus according to the invention is adjustable in thickness, for its adjustment to the proper thickness of the cover elements to be installed.

 For example, it can be removable, to replace a shim of a shim of different thickness.

 Alternatively, it can carry, projecting on its underside, at least one support pin, screw for example, adjustable in height.

 In any case, the apparatus according to the invention preferably also has, at its lower part at right angles to its slide, a detent capable of allowing it to overlap at least partially a cover element already posed while carrying by its support wedge on the support concerned.

 Such a recess may for example result from a simple deportation of his store relative to his support wedge.

 Whatever the case may be, it advantageously allows, if desired, to have, as close as possible to a previously installed roofing element, the point of the hook to be superimposed on it.

 According to a preferred embodiment, the magazine comprising on the one hand a guide and on the other hand a cover forming, transversely to said guide, a passage proper to the passage of the hooks to be nailed, said guide is hinged to the cover by a hinge, at end of the magazine opposite the slide, transversely relative to said magazine, the cover is integral with the slide, the guide carries the support wedge, and releasable connection means are provided between said support wedge and said slide or a room integral with it.

 Thus, the hook loading of the store is very easily by opening the latter, and its closure is advantageously via the support wedge.

 This results, in particular, a particularly simple construction of the whole.

 As illustrated in FIG. 1, the nailing apparatus 10 according to the invention is applied to the penetration in the walls 11 of hooks 12 suitable for laying thereon cover elements 13 to be arranged in beds. successive with mutual overlap two by two of these cover elements 13, one-third in their height, and half in their width.

 It can be as much the execution or the repair of a roof covering, as the execution and or the repair of a cladding on a wall.

 In general, and as illustrated in FIG. 2, each of the hooks 12 used comprises, each disposed respectively at the ends of a common leg 14, on the one hand a tip 15, which is intended to allow nailing it to a flight 11, and on the other hand a gripper 16, in which a cover element 13 can be engaged, said point 15 and said gripper 16 being situated in the same plane, which is that of FIG. 2, but extending in opposite directions with respect to each other with respect to the jamb 14.

 In the embodiment shown, the nailing apparatus 10 according to the invention is applied, by way of example, to the implementation of hooks 12 whose tip 15 is not directly disposed at the corresponding end of the invention. jamb 14, but at the end of a fold on itself 18 of it.

 Such a hook 12 is not itself the object of the present invention, it will not be described in more detail here.

 As mentioned above, the apparatus 10 to be nailed according to the invention is similar to staplers or nailers, of the type for example those described in particular in US Patents 2983.922 and 3.170.487.

 Such a device to be nailed will not be described here in all its details either.

 Only the elements necessary for the understanding of the invention will be described.

 In general, and as known per se, not detailed here, this nailing apparatus 10 comprises a body 20, which locally forms a striking head 21, a slide 22, which is disposed vertically above said head 21, and wherein, as shown schematically in broken lines in Figures 3 and 5, is movably mounted, under the control of the strike head 21, between a high standby position H and a low position of action B, a slider forming a hammer 23, and a magazine 24, which is adapted to receive the hooks 12 to be nailed, and which, at one of its ends, opens laterally into the slideway 22, for delivery to the unit in that said hooks 12.

 In the embodiment shown schematically, a base 25, forming a handle, connects to the body 20 the end of the magazine 24 opposite the slide 22.

 As described in the above-mentioned US patents, the striking head 21 may for example be pneumatic.

 But other types of striking head can be envisaged.

In the embodiment shown, the slide 22, which, by its head, is engaged in a slot 27 of the striking head 21, for controlling the hammer slider 23, and which, by conventional fastening means, not shown , is suitably secured to this head 21, is in two parts
First of all, there is, on the side of the magazine 24, a block 28, which, on its face opposite to the latter, has a rebate 29 suitable for guiding the hammer slider 23, and of a depth substantially equal to thickness of the hooks 12 to nail.

 Externally, this block 28 has, transversely, a first side, a shoulder 30, for support on the striking head 21, and, on the opposite side, a shoulder 31, for support of the magazine 24.

 Internally, in its lower part, its rabbet 29 is widely indented, to the right of the magazine 24, by a cutout 32 adapted to the profile of the hooks 12 to be nailed.

 In the embodiment shown, this cutout 32 thus comprises transversely with respect to the slideway 29, a branch of glove fingers 33 proper to the passage of the end folded on itself of the jamb 14 of the hooks 12 to be nailed.

 In addition, starting from this glove-finger branch 33, in the direction of its foot, the rabbet 29 is laterally half eliminated, on the side opposite to said glove-finger branch 33.

 The second part of the slide 22 is formed by a plate 35 suitably attached, by screws 36 for example, on the block 28, on the opposite side to the magazine 24, for closing the slideway 29.

 In the embodiment shown, and for reasons which will appear hereinafter, the wall thus constituting the plate 35 on the side opposite the magazine 24 extends downwards, beyond the block 28, by presenting a recess 36 which locally reduces the thickness.

 The magazine 24 is itself in two parts.

 There is, on the one hand, a guide 38, and, on the other hand, a cover 39, said cover 39 forming transversely with said guide 38 an L-shaped passage 40 which, opening longitudinally on the outside by a slot 41, is specific to the scrolling hooks 12 to nail.

 In the embodiment shown, the guide 38 is constituted by a box profile, having projecting at its base, an enlarged sole 42, formed, for example, as shown, by a folding on itself of the corresponding wall of this profile.

 Together, in the embodiment shown, the cover 39 is a simple bracket whose flanges 44, 45, for forming the passage 40, extend away from the guide 38, the first parallel to the sole 42 of this guide 38, on the side thereof opposite said sole 42, and the second perpendicular to said sole 42.

 In the embodiment shown, the guide 38 is articulated to the cover 39 by a hinge 47, FIG. 3, and this extends at the end of the magazine 24 opposite the slideway 22, transversely with respect to the magazine 24.

In practice, in this embodiment, the cover 24 is integral with the slide 22
For this purpose, it is engaged with the transe sal shoulder 38 of the block 28 of this slide 22, this shoulder 31 having a rebate made for this purpose in said blo <28, and is properly secured thereto , for example by screws not shown, along said shoulder 31.

 Together, the guide 38 preferably extends sufficiently to flush flush with the bottom of the rabbet 29 of the slide 22, in favor of the cut 32 thereof.

 In the magazine 24 is movably mounted a slider 48, which, complementary to the passage 40 formed between them the guide 38 and the cover 39, has overall like him, an L-shaped configuration.

 This pusher slurry forming pusher 48 is subjected to means of advance able to urge it permanently in the direction of the slide 22, for driving towards it the hooks to be nailed 12 present in the magazine 24, and thus delivery to the unit of said hooks 12 in said slideway 22, a single hook 12, counterbiased by the plate 35 of the slide 22, - can not be both in it, right of its rabbet 29, given the depth of this rebate 29.

 In the embodiment shown, these feed means are constituted by a ribbon or the like 49 which, coupled at one end to the push-member slide 48, preferably on the opposite side to the slide 22, as shown, is coupled at its other end to an automatic winder 50 carried for this purpose by the slide 22 or a part integral therewith, the striking head 21 in this embodiment.

 At the right of the winder 50, the ribbon 49 obliquely crosses the flange 44 of the angle forming the cover 39 of the magazine 24, with the aid of a notch 52 provided for this purpose in this flange 44, as shown schematically in FIG. broken lines in Figure 4.

 The automatic reel 50 pertaining to a technique known per se, and not part of the present invention, it will not be described in detail here.

 In the embodiment shown, the flange 45 of the angle forming the cover 39 of the magazine 24 comprises longitudinally a buttonhole 52, for passage of a pin 53, which, integral with the pusher slide 48, is adapted to guide and to the maneuver thereof, this pin being transversely of dimension complementary to that of the buttonhole 52 and carrying, on the outside, a tette 54, which, of greater transverse dimensions, facilitates the gripping and carries on said wing 45 of the angle forming the cover 39, on either side of said buttonhole 52 thereof, FIGS. 3 and 4.

 At its lower part, directly above the slideway 22, the nailing apparatus 10 according to the invention has, in projection, a bearing block 55, by which it is adapted to bear on a flight 11, and which is itself adapted to maintain a determined distance E between such a flight 11, or, more generally, the support on which the covering elements 13, on the one hand, and the low position of Action B of the slider forming hammer 23, on the other hand, Figure 3.

 In practice, and as shown in phantom, this lower position of the slider 23 is level with the foot of the slide 22, and more specifically, the rabbet 29 formed in the block 28 thereof.

 Preferably, the support shim 55 provided according to the invention is adjustable in thickness.

 For example, and as shown, for its adjustment in thickness, the support wedge 55 is removable, to allow the substitution of a wedge 55 of a wedge 55 'of different thickness, as schematized in dashed lines at Figure 6.

 In the embodiment shown, the support shim 55 extends partly under the sole 42 of the guide 38 which the magazine 24 comprises, and is attached by screws 57 to this sole 42.

 In this embodiment, the support wedge 55 is thus carried by said guide 38, and, for its substitution to another, it suffices to remove the screws 57.

 The support shim 55 also extends partly under the block 28 of the slide 22, and, having a first rebate 59 to make up the difference in level between the sole 42 of the guide 38 and the foot of said block 28, it presents a second rabbet 60 for nesting on the latter.

 In addition, laterally, it has a recess 62 at right rabbet 29 of the slide 22, not to interfere with this rabbet 29.

 In the embodiment shown, disengageable securing means are provided between the support block 55 and the slideway 22, or a part integral therewith.

 Thus, in this embodiment, and particularly advantageously, the closure of the magazine 24 is via the support block 55.

 For example, a screw 62, as shown, or any pawl, can be established between the shim 55 and the block 28 of the slide 22, by means of a milling 63 of said support block 55 whose bottom is systematically established at a determined constant distance from the foot of said block 28, whatever the thickness of the support block 55.

 Alternatively, or in coaplement, and as shown schematically in broken lines in Figure 6, latching means 65 may be provided between the block 28 of the slide 22 and the support wedge 55, said latching means 65 comprising for example a hook 66 carried in-projection by said block 28 for cooperation with a complementary hook 67 provided for this purpose protruding on said support block 55.

 Preferably, and as shown, the apparatus 10 to be nailed according to the invention has, as a corollary, at its lower part, in line with the slide 22, a recess 70 suitable for allowing it to overlap at least partially an element. cover 13 already laid while carrying by its shim 55 on the flight 11 concerned.

 In practice, in the embodiment shown, this recess 70 simply results from the fact that its bearing block 55 extends only over part of the sole 42 of the guide 38 of its magazine 24.

 Of course, and in a manner known per se, not shown, the nailing apparatus 10 according to the invention finally comprises any control member, trigger or pushbutton for example, at the disposal of the user, for example on the base 25 forming a handle, for triggering, piecemeal, its strike head 21.

 When, since its magazine 24 is loaded in hooks 12, the nailing apparatus 10 according to the invention is used, it is applied, by its support wedge 55, to the concerned flange 11, with partial overlap, by its recess 70, the cover member 13 to which such a hook 12 is to be superimposed, and contacted by the thinner part of the plate 35 of its slide 22, with the adjacent cover element 13 already superimposed on the previous.

 Its recess 70 extending in practice perpendicularly to said plate 35, it is thus perfectly positioned relative to the underlying cover member 13.

 It suffices, therefore, to control the entry into action of the striking head 21, to cause a fitting of a hook 12 perfectly adequate vis-à-vis the underlying cover member 13.

 Because the plate 35 of the slide 22 has a reduced thickness at its foot, this installation is advantageously closer to the neighboring covering element 13 against which the nailing apparatus 10 according to the invention is applied.

 Preferably, so that, in all safety, the clip 16 of the hook 12 comes to slightly flush with the underlying cover member 13, it may be appropriate to arrange the nailing apparatus 10 according to the invention slightly at an angle. tilting towards this cover element 13, by tilting around a horizontal.

 As a variant, the support wedge 55 may for this purpose pre-.

systematically comprise a slightly biased lower surface, the thickness of this support wedge 55 being slightly weaker on the side of the slot 41 through which the passage 40 of the magazine 24 debouches longitudinally on the outside than on the opposite side to this slot 41.

 The present invention is not limited to the embodiment described and shown, but encompasses any variant embodiment.

 For example, to ensure, when nailing a hook a good guide this hook in the slide of the device, and thus prevent a blockage in this slide, it may be appropriate to provide, internally, on one at less walls delimiting, at its foot, this slide, beyond the outlet in the latter of the store, a chamfer inclined towards its own outlet to the outside.

 Moreover, the striking head of the apparatus according to the invention is not necessarily a self-actuating, pneumatic striking head, for example as indicated above; according to a simplified embodiment of the invention, it is on the contrary manually operated, the roofer to for example hammer on the hammer slider for the implementation of it, and said slider being simply mounted movable against biasing means such as springs.

 In addition, the support wedge that the apparatus according to the invention comprises does not necessarily serve to close the magazine of the latter, this closure may instead, alternatively, for example to intervene the sole of the guide ae this store instead of there - that support wedge.

 Finally, if the hooks of the type briefly described are particularly well suited to implementation by a nailing apparatus according to the invention, it goes without saying that the scope of this is not limited to the only type of hooks to be nailed, but on the contrary also extends to the other types of hooks to be nailed, and for example to those whose tip is arranged flush with the corresponding end of the jamb.

Claims (13)
