Abstract

The telephone receiver comprises a standard handset with a microphone (2) and loudspeaker (3), but in the central part it has a variable gum amplifier. A microphone amplifier (4) attached to the microphone provides automatic gain control for the speech sent from the set. A loudspeaker amplifier (5) mounted adjacent to the loudspeaker provides amplification which may be manually controlled by a potentiometer (7) whilst at the same time being linked to the automatic control provided for the microphone amplifier. The control system for these two (6) responds to the leve of the signal produced by the user's voice in order to vary the gain. A circuit (9) is included to control the level of the signal transmitted, to avoid the transmission of an excessively loud signal from the handset. The set is particularly useful for the hard of hearing, providing amplification up to 30 dB.
