Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a quadripod support for a camera, which consists of two parts or bipod elements each having two adjustable arms provided with feet and two arms which can directly enclose the body of a camera such as 'a camera. The two bipod elements cooperate together as well as with the body of the camera so as to constitute a quadripod support and to support the camera. The adjustment of the branches and feet determines the orientation of the camera. The bipod elements are small enough that the photographer can carry them in his pocket when he is not using them, and they are quickly and easily placed on the body of the camera and removed from it.
The invention will be described in more detail with reference to the attached drawing by way of non-limiting example and in which
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the quadripod support of the present invention, showing a camera in dashed lines to illustrate the mode of support of the body of the camera in the horizontal direction and to show the cooptation between the two bipod elements which constitute the quadripod support in two parts for camera
Figure 2 is a side view showing one of the bipod elements of the quadripod support, which encloses the body of the camera to take a photograph in the upward direction, the other bipod element being behind that shown and hidden by it; and
Figure 3 is a side view on the scale one of one of the bipod elements of the support
The preferred embodiment of the two-part quadripod support of the present invention for a camera or photographic device is generally designated by 10 in FIG. 1.
I1 consists of two identical bipod elements 12 and 14 which will be described in more detail below. Each of the bipod elements has a cross member 16 to which are fixed two arms designated generally by 18 and 20. The rear arm 18 is a single short arm directed upwards. The front arm 20 is a long arm, that is to say slightly longer than the arm 18, comprising a part 22 directed upwards above the crosspiece 16, a short connecting bar 24 starting from the upper end of the part 22 and extending in the direction of the rear arm 18, and an end part 26 directed downwards starting from the rear end of the connecting bar 24. In the free state and in the absence of a constraint, the part 26 is inclined backwards, before the flat'on of the camera by introducing it in a direction capable of closing the space delimited by the arms 18 and 20.
Bosses 28 and 30 are located at the opposite ends of the crosspiece 16 on the respective lower parts of the arms 18 and 2Q and each of them has a tapped hole which is generally parallel to the direction in which the arm 18 extends. 32 and 34 constituted by threaded rods are screwed respectively into the vertical holes of the bosses. The lower ends of the branches end with feet 36 and 38 respectively which, preferably, have the shape of rubber feet molded on the lower ends of the branches or otherwise attached to them
The overall dimensions of each bipod element are such that they are small enough to be carried by inserting them into the pocket. from the photographer where they are readily available when needed.
Thus, the crosspiece 16 has a length which is only slightly greater than the width of the body of a conventional camera, the arms 18 and 20 are of a length less than the height of this body and the branches 32 and 34 conveniently have the same length as the arms 18 and 20, in order to allow sufficient angular adjustments to be made without having to lift the body of the camera much.
The bipod elements 12 and 14, with the exception of their branches and feet, are each preferably made of a synthetic polymer composition which gives them lightness and mechanical strength and they preferably have the rectangular or square section shown. The spacing of the arms 18 and 20 is such that the quadripod support adjusts correctly on most cameras of the reflex type with a single 35 mm lens currently used. The correct adjustment means that the body 40 of the camera photographic can rest on the crosspiece 16, come into contact with the posterior arm 18 and exert pressure against the end 26 inclined towards the inside of the front arm 20 with sufficient compressive force to cause the inclined part 26 to bend slightly from its junction with the connecting bar 24, this elastic connection being indicated at 42.
In the case where the body of the camera has a dimension capable of exceeding the bending power of the junction 42, the part 22 can flex to allow the insertion of this body. Thus, the bipod element is kept in contact with the body of the camera and said camera is supported correctly.
il convient de noter que les bras 18 et 20 présentent des surfaces arrondies pour faciliter l'introduction du corps de l'appareil photographique entre eux. it should be noted that the arms 18 and 20 have rounded surfaces to facilitate the introduction of the body of the camera between them.
The fixing by thread of the branches 32 and 34 in the corresponding bosses makes it possible to rotate the said branches to adjust their elongation below the cross member 16. The branches are rotated to place them in the desired position, preferably a position in which the four feet are in contact with a support surface. In this way, the camera is properly supported and its orientation is adjusted.
It goes without saying that various modifications can be made to the support described and shown without departing from the scope of the invention.
