Abstract

The sluice gate for rivers or canals pivots about a horizontal axis above and reasonably close to its lower edge, so that the hydrostatic and hydrodynamic forces help to maintain the plate closed or open as necessary. The sluice gate may operate automatically so that, when the water reaches a certain height above the pivotal axis of the gate, the hydrostatic pressures cause the gate to tilt. This lifts its lower edge and allows water to flow out until the pressure above and below the pivotal axis equalise, causing the gate to close.

Description

VANNAGES BASCULANTS A AXE HORIZONTAL,
TILT VALVES WITH HORIZONTAL AXIS,
SEMI-AUTOMATIC AND AUTOMATIC
The present invention relates to the baseload support basins in river or canal, tilting, with horizontal axis, retracting during the arrival of a flood, for semi-automatic basketwork and are raised without the intervention of the human hand after the flood for automatic winnowing.

The known works in this field have an axis of rotation located at the base of the winnowing and use a complex linkage system to tilt the winnowing or a float device requiring the installation of expensive boxes in automatic winnowing.

Unlike these devices oW the axis of rotation is located at the base of the tilting plate, the device according to the invention comprises an axis of rotation located near the lower third of the plate, allowing hydrostatic forces to be brought into play and hydrodynamics of the water and of the sole weight of the machine for maintaining the plate in the closed position, or for tilting it in the open position. Instruments facilitating the tilting can be affixed in the upper part as well as instruments allowing automatic lifting in the lower part
Note that the entire winnowing can be tilted slightly (with its frame) in the high position.

VANNAGES SEHI-AUTOMATIQUES
MODELE I.
SEHI-AUTOMATIC VALVES
MODEL I.

A plate A is surmounted by a plate C itself located above an opening B. This plate C acts as a stop when the level of the surface of the watercourse rises above a critical level and causes the changeover.

MODELE II.  MODEL II.

La partie supérieure de la plaque comprend deux oreilles D. The upper part of the plate includes two ears D.

When the water level rises above a critical level, the winnowing switches over.

MODELA III. MODELA III.

The two ears, smaller, are pierced with an orifice E which allows the filling of a reservoir F; this filled when the water rises causes the machine to tip over.

A slow drain port G allows the water to drain from the tank during the recession. Manual ascent is then possible.

AUTOMATIC VALVES
NODULE IV.

The winnowing includes the instruments at the top of the model III, but an R ballast, affixed at the bottom, causes the winnowing to rise when the tank is emptied, at the end of the flood.

This lower part also includes a return I dvitar * 4 the beat during the recession.

For the last two models, it is advisable to build an inclined raft on the downstream side of the winnowing to improve the flow of water. The installation of a muffle can relieve the lifting effort of semi-automatic winnowing.

For all models, the installation of a grid upstream prevents the deposit of plant debris on the body of the winnowing.

Applications can be found on the course of small and medium plain rivers, where low water support is sought for fish farming, irrigation and aesthetic purposes. On medium rivers, we can have several winnows of different heights, in order to gradually introduce low water.
