Abstract

A sewage purificn. plant is of the type in which waste water is received in an oxygenating chamber where bacterial action transforms the waste into sludge. The sludge is transferred to a decanting chamber where the sludge settles and is partly recycled to the oxygenating chamber while surplus is discharged from the system purified water is decanted from the top of the decanting chamber. A single air compressor has a dual function in both aerating the waste water in the oxygenating chamber and recycling sludge from the decanting chamber to the oxygenating chamber. Pref. the air compressor has two air delivery connections from which pipes deliver air to the loner part of the oxygenating chamber. Each of the pipes delivers air via a small bore branch tube by means of which sludge is sucked from the decanting chamber and discharged into the oxygenating chamber. The two chambers are pref. combined in a single vessel on which the air compressor is mounted to form a packaged unit. The plant can be constructed as a compact, inexpensive, packaged unit which will operate satisfactorily even when not installed in a perfectly upright position. The unit can be fitted inside a septic tank which is therepy converted to a treatment plants. No sump is required as sludge is recycled by air suction.

Une telle station comporte en général deux compartiments : les eaux rejetées arrivent dans un premier compartiment où par oxygénation les matières sont dissoutes et absorbées par les bactéries, et se transforment en boues. Such a station generally has two compartments: the discharged water arrives in a first compartment where, by oxygenation, the materials are dissolved and absorbed by the bacteria, and turn into sludge.

L'effluent passe dans un deuxième compartiment où les boues se décantent.
