Abstract

The circuit operates a flue closing valve to reduce heat loss from oil or gas fired burners, and is configured to ensure that burners cannot be ignited unless the flue valve is fully opened, and safeguards against faults due to welded contacts in the control circuits. The valve is controlled by the thermostat (3) which controls the burner (7). The contacts are introduced in series between the thermostat and the burner. The first is a limit switch (1) operated by the full opening of the flue valve. The safeguard against the condition where the limit switch (1) contacts weld, owing to high current, the second contact (2) is operated before the flue valve is fully open, and after the flue valve has part closed, and is therefore always switched at no load. If the first contact has welded, the opening of the second contact connects the burner supply current through a low current fuse (5) which opens the supply circuit to the flue valve motor (4).
