Description
L'invention se rapporte à une méthode de traçage de la boue de forage par
détermination de la concentration de l'ion acétate en vue de toute reconnaissance des couches traversées
et des filtrats produits par un réservoir pétrolier.
Une telle méthode d'investigation peut être notamment nécessaire lorsque l'on se trouve en présence d'hydrocarbures différents de ceux déjà détectés au cours d'un forage effectué dans la même zone ou encore lorsque l'eau produitepossède une
salinité proche de celle du filtrat de la boue.
En effet et en dépit des nombreux types de diagraphies auxquels on peut procéder au cours d'un forage,les conditions qui viennent d'être rappelées nécessitent une interprétation rigoureuse de ces diagraphies, seule une méthode de traçage
du filtrat du fluide de forage pouvant s'avérer efficace.
Les méthodes de traçage connues couvrent trois types
l'utilisation des colorants, l'utilisation de traceurs radio-
actifs et l'utilisation d'ions solubles.
L'utilisation des colorants: fluorescéine, fuschine etc.présente l'inconvénient majeure de ne pouvoir fournir des
indications quantitatives valables que par dosage spectropho-
tométrique. Les traceurs radioactifs nécessitent des précautions particulières et peuvent procurer des interactions sur les mesures diagraphiques notamment lorsque la diagraphie est
faite au moyen de rayons gamma.
Les traceurs constitués d'ions solubles, non rencontrés dans les eaux de formations constituent par contre des moyens
intéressants car leur dosage ne relève que de la chimie usuel-
le nécessitant rarement l'emploi de la spectrophotométrie et ces traceurs n'interfèrent pas-avec les mesures diagraphiques
obtenues par rayonnement gamma.
De nombreux types de traceurs de ce genre ont déjà été essayés: bichromate, chromate, nitrate, ammonium, cobalt, nickel, manganèse, vanadium,.lithium... mais ces différents ions, plus ou moins instables, ou encore incompatibles avec
le milieu d'un forage, n'ont jamais pu satisfaire les opéra-
teurs, soit du fait de la disparition de l'ion, soit du fait de la complexité de la méthode de dosage qui peut nécessiter la présence d'un chimiste averti ainsi que l'utilisation d'un
appareillage complexe ou trop sensible pour pouvoir être uti-
lisé en chantier.
En résumé, en dépit de la nécessité de trouver une
méthode pratique aboutissant à des résultats quantitatifs cer-
tains et des nombreux essais effectués, aucune méthode de tra-
çage ne permet de résoudre de façon simple et pratique le problème du maintien de l'efficacité de cette méthode de traçage en présence des conditions suivantes: - élévation de la température jusqu'à au moins 1500C, - utilisation de types boues de forage les plus variés, utilisation en eau douce ou en précenrice d'eau de mer, - présence de l'un quelconque des produits usuels suivants: lignosulfonates, ferrochrome, soude, bentonite, attapulgite, polymères disponibles dans le commerce sous les noms de
"Flocgel", "Drispac", "Rhodopol", "CMC" ou carboxyméthylcel-
lulose, hydroxyde de fer, diesel.
A titre d'exemple, les diverses recherches effectuées ont permis de mettre en évidence un caractère inhibiteur de l'ion acétate sur le gonflement de l'argile montmorillonite calcique, l'effet inhibiteur s'amenuisant nettement au delà
de concentrations de l'ordre de 0,5 mol par litre.
L'objet de l'invention est une nouvelle méthode de traçage de la boue de forage au moyen d'ions solubles et selon laquelle on étudie les variations de concentration du
filtrat de la boue de forage contenant une teneur prédéter-
Z5 minée de l'ion traceur, caractérisé en ce que l'ion traceur est l'ion acétate CH3COO- sa concentration étant comprise

entre 1.10-3 et 5.10 ions par litre de boue.
A titre d'exemple, l'expérience montre que quels que
soient les produits présents dans la boue de forage, les ca-
ractéristiques de l'argile utilisée et notamment sa viscosité, sont maintenues constantes permettant notamment d'-éviter tout risque d'instabilité des parois du forage ou de redispersion
des particules d'argiles recyclées.
Un autre objet de l'invention est une méthode de ce
type caractérisé en ce que la détermination de la concentra-
tion du filtrat de la boue dans le filtrat de l'échantillon recueilli s'effectue en traitant ledit filtrat par l'acide
sulfurique dilué et en distillant l'acide acétique ainsi li-
béré des acétates à une température de l'ordre de 120 C à
130 C.
Un autre objet de l'invention est une méthode de ce type selon laquelle on tient compte de l'apparition possible
d'acides faibles parasites, notamment en présence de lignosul-
fonates, par l'oxydation préalable des hydrogénosulfites par l'iode, en vue de procéder au dosage d'une part de l'acidité
forte globale résultante, d'autre part de l'acide acétique.
D'autres objets et caractéristiques de l'invention ap-
paraîtront au cours de la description détaillée des diverses
opérations mises en jeu dans l'application de la méthode pré-
conisée.
Selon l'invention le traceur utilisé est l'ion acétate CH COO, tous les ions acétates étant solubles, les acétates d'argent CH COO0/Ag+ et mercureux 2 CH3 COO /Hg2 + étant les

seuls qui sont considérés comme étant peu solubles.
En outre, l'expérience montre qu'aucun des complexes
susceptibles d'apparaître n'entrave la méthode de traçage.
La boue de forage est préparée en y introduisant une solution d'acétate de sodium de telle sorte que le mélange
présente avant injection dans le puits de forage et en cir-
culation une concentration en acétate d'environ 0,03 à 0,05
ion par litre.
A titre d'exemple on supposera que la concentration choisie est de 0,04 ion par litre pour l'acétate de sodium cristallisé. On prélève l'échantillon de la boue de forage au niveau désiré du forage et l'on verse par exemple 100 cm3 du filtrat
de l'échantillon de boue recueilli dans un récipient de dis-
tillation. On libère l'acide acétique au moyen d'acide sulfurique, par exemple en introduisant 2 cm3 d'acide sulfurique ayant
un titre de 5N.
Selon les produits introduits dans la boue la réaction CH COONa+HSO4C1COOH + NaH SQ4 peut s'accompagner de la

formation d'acides parasites notamment en présence de ligno-
sulfonates de sorte qu'après ébullition entre 1200 et 1300C le produit de la distillation recueilli après passage dans
l'appareil réfrigérant peut contenir des hydrogénosulfites.
Le produit de distillation est recueilli dans un vase à doser
contenant par exemple 100 cm3 d'eau distillée.
On oxyde alors les hydrogénosulfites par l'iode en a-
joutant un certain volume d'une préparation d'iode titrant
0,lN jusqu'à l'apparition de la couleur brune de l'iode indi-
quant la tranformation complète des hydrogénosulfites en hy-
drogénosulfates. 12 + 2H1O0 + S02- -i H2S04 + 2HI.
L'iode en excès est neutralisé par le thiosulfate de
2- 2- -
sodium 2 S 032 + I2-- S4062 + 2I cette neutralisation étant visible en présence d'empois d'amidon qui se décolore en fin
de neutralisation par le thiosulfate.
L'acidité globale des produits de distillation peut
alors être dosée par neutralisation par la soude. Si l'on a-
joute avant la soude quelques gouttes d'héliantine, celle-ci
se colore en rouge en raison de la présence de l'acide fort.
Il suffit alors de noter le volume V de la solution de soude - versée, jusqu'au virage de l'héliantine du rouge à l'orange (pH 4,2 à 4,3) pour connaître l'acidité totale du distillat traité puis d'ajouter quelques gouttes de phénophtaléine et de verser à nouveau un certain volume de soude V1 jusqu'au - virage au rouge violacé (pH = 8,3), ce volume correspondant aux sels acides obtenus par les acides forts, pour obtenir la concentration C en acétate de sodium cristallisé (CH3COONa, 3HO0); Cette concentratior C est égale à (NV-NV1) 1,36, la masse molaire de l'acétate cristalliséeétant égale à 136 et N étant la normalité de la solution de soude. Si N = 0,1
C=0,136 (V-V1).
Cette méthode de traçage par dosage de l'acide acéti-
que après ébullition se révèle d'autant plus efficace que les
autres acides susceptibles de se former disparaissent à l'é-
- bullition ou ne sont pas entraînés par ébullition. C'est ainsi que l'acide carbonique se décompose par la disparition
de C02 qui s'échappe lors de l'ébullition. CO + Hz;O-HCO3.
qui2 + 20P2 2C 3* Le phénol qui est un acide faible ne distillant que
vers 181 C n'altère pas non plus le dosage ainsi effectué.
Quant à l'hydrogène sulfuré qui pourrait gêner en tant qu'acide faible il ne peut nuire à la précision du dosage
puisqu'il est transformé en acide fort HI par l'iode en excès.

Enfin l'expérience montre que les complexes sont peu stables et n'entravent pas les mesures. A titre d'exemple Fe3+ /CH3CO - est détruit à chaud 3 Fe3+ + 6 Citi3CO0O + 2 O,-'[Fe3 (CH3COO00)6(0OH)21 de sorte que ce complexe n'a aucune interférence sur les
teneurs en acétate.
De nombreux essais ont permis de détecter des pourcen-
tages d'erreurs variant de 1,5 à 13 sur des quantités d'acé-
tate variant de 0,2000 à 4,000 gramme par litre. Il va de soi que lorsque l'on utilise une concentration d'acétate de sodium
inférieure à 0,5g/1 on utilise une solution de soude suffi-
samment diluée pour conserver une précision des mesures.
Lorsque le filtrat que l'on désire analyser contient du brut, on évite toute gouttelette de brut qui fausserait la prise d'essai par traitement préalable au tétrachlorure
de carbone.
En résumé, l'invention s'étend à toute opération de
traçage du filtrat d'une boue contenant l'ion acétate, l'acé-
tate de sodium cristallisé pouvant-éventuellement être rem-
placé par tout autre acétate. Les dilutions peuvent varier selon les conditions particulières rencontrées de 1.10-3 à
5.10 ion par litre de filtrat.
Le filtrait de boue de l'échantillon prélevé au cours du test de réservoir est traité pour doser l'ion acétate en
provoquant la libération de l'acide acétique puis en effectu-
ant une opération de distillation à une température de l'or-
dre de 120 à 1300C pour doser l'acide acétique distillé, les acides faibles parasites étant d'abord transformés en acide
fort, avant dosage de la totalité de l'acidité suivi du dosa-
ge de l'acidité faible.
On comprendra toutefois que diverses variantes peuvent
être utilisées sans s'écarter de l'esprit général de l'in-
vention notamment lorsque l'on utilise cette méthode au cours
d'une diagraphie quelconque.

Méthode telle que revendiquée en 3 selon laquelleon détermine l'acidité totale du filtrat distillé par l'ad-dition d'un volume d'une solution de soude de titre de 0,025 à N jusqu'au virage de l'héliantine du rouge à l'orange puis l'acidité faible par l'addition d'un volume V1 de ladite solution jusqu'au virage du phénolphtaléine au rouge violacé,de façon à déterminer la concentration de l'ion traceur.) Méthode telle que revendiquée dans l'une quelconquedes revendications 1 à 5 dans laquelle l'ion acétate choisiest celui de l'acétate de sodium cristallisé CH3COO Na, 3H20.
