Abstract
Description
The object of the present invention is the production of an apparatus making it possible to control the pitch of a sound emitted for musicians, in particular by string instruments. Intended especially for the regulation of stringed instruments whose regulation is frequent, its use can however be extended to other musical instruments and also of the human voice or any other sound emission. With regard to stringed instruments, musicians have so far been unable to adjust the quten strings by comparing the note emitted with a standard sound (tuning fork) or more simply by listening directly to the sound. This requires considerable experience and a particularly skillful "ear".
The essential object of the present invention is therefore the production of a simple device which makes it possible to quickly and without maneuver measure the precision of the note emitted by a string instrument.
Indeed, stringed instruments are subjected to frequent misadjustments due to variations in temperature and hygrometry; to the ysteresis of tension efforts ... It is therefore essential for these instruments to be able to ensure quality music that the tuning and tuning of the strings are perfect. This delicate and precise operation will be facilitated by the apparatus which is the subject of the present invention. An essential tool for beginner musicians, it will also be useful for amateur or professional musicians because the simplicity of its operation and its moderate price will make it a particularly attractive device.
The apparatus, object of the invention, uses well known techniques but it is essentially the use of these techniques which makes them original.
Figure 1 gives the general organizational diagram of the device, the embodiment of which is as follows:
The sounds emitted by the musical apparatus are summarily amplified by the amplifier (21) after having been transformed into electrical signals by a conventional microphone. As soon as the energy detected by the energy detector (22) is sufficient (voltage and duration adjustment of the sound emitted), the microprocessor (25) controls (control function 11), the measurement at regular intervals, every 200 milliseconds) of the frequency emitted by the musical instrument using a frequency meter (23) the principle of which will be described below. Every two hundred (200) milliseconds the frequency measured by the frequency meter (23) is read and transferred to the memory of the microprocessor (25). The software (program) of the microprocessor (25) searches in the read-only memory (26) to which note corresponds the sound emitted by the musical instrument. According to the precision of the note, the microprocessor (25) will display the result of the measurement on the display (27). The following indications will be displayed:
1) the note
2) the octave
3) signs defining the precision of the note compared to
the note displayed. For example:
- the + sign indicates that the frequency of the note issued
is greater than that of the note displayed.
est inférieure à celle de la note affichée.- the sign - indicates that the frequency of the note issued
is lower than that of the note displayed.
est en accord avec la note affichée.- the sign 0 indicates that the note issued by the instrument
agrees with the note displayed.
The criterion used to define the signs +, -, and 0 are defined in Figure 2. The precision for the grade to be considered correct (indication 0) is only 1% (one percent); that is, ssff = 0.01
'-f (see figure 2). The calculation of the precision as well as that of the indications + and - whose limit is given by ti) + Fl + 1 i) representing a note
2 and i + 1) representing the next higher note in the scale) is produced by the microprocessor program. Thus, the device will continuously display, if the sound emitted is loud enough and long enough to excite the energy detection, the frequency emitted by the instrument. For a short sound, the device will display the result of the last measurement for one 200 ms interval. (A variation in measurement time may be considered)
Regarding the frequency meter, two measurement methods can be considered but it is essential that they are carried out thanks to an excellent quality time base, if possible quartz for very good precision: quartz time base (24 ).
( voir figure N" 4 ).The device which is the subject of the invention can use either of the frequency measurement methods, the N02 method being more easily applicable to short sounds:
METHOD 1
During the measurement period of 200ms a counter
simple measures the number of zero crossings of the
electrical signal of the sound emitted by the
measurement (Figure 3)
METHOD 2
During a certain number of periods (2 as on
figure 4 or 4 for more precision) of the signal
electric, count the number of pulses dela
time base at 10 M bits / s contained in this slot
of time. (see figure N "4).
So, if we count for 4 periods a fre
quence of 1600 HZ one obtains 2,500 pulses and the
measurements can therefore be made with precision and with
simple techniques and technologies.
