Abstract

The device uses a sensor to monitor an abnormal rise in temp. adjacent the tube column, which might result in an implosion, or a consequent variation in the magnetic field. The sensor controls a switch which, in its normal state, charges a capacitor and energises a parallel relay from a 12v supply. The relay closes the television power supply circuit. The switch over of the switch by the sensor causes the relay to break the power supply circuit. The switch also connects the 12v supply to a parallel capacitor and relay through a pair of the relay contacts. When energised, the contacts switch the relay and capacitor to a lamp and audible alarm through which the capacitor discharges. When the relay switches back to recharge the capacitor, the lamp and alarm are energised.

Description

The present invention relates to a method for preventing the dangers of implosion of a cathode ray tube in a television set.

The implosion of cathode ray tubes fitted to televisions is generally caused by the rapid and excessive increase in temperature at a well-defined part of the cathode ray tube compared to normal ambient temperature, prevailing inside the television chassis.
The fire in the enclosure of the substation, caused either by a short circuit or by an abnormal heating of certain components (voltage drop resistors, transformers, transducers, deflectors) can also be the basis of a tube implosion cathodic.

The method, object of the present invention, is a means of prevention and protection, by the fact that it tracks the causes which generate the implosion. The object of the invention is to detect the sudden and rapid rise in temperature inside a station. The principle is based on the fact that any variation in temperature causes a variation in magnetism in the enclosure where this temperature varies.

The variation of this magnetism will be used to control the breaking of the safety circuit which warns the user that an implosion danger is imminent.

According to a preferred manufacture, the switch interrupter can be replaced by a resistance with negative coefficient of temperature or a bimetallic strip or any other mechanism sensitive to the temperature.

The drawings appended hereto illustrate, by way of nonlimiting example, an embodiment of the method which is the subject of the invention.

These drawings will show other advantages of the process, together with the description below.

Figure I shows an embodiment of the method.

According to FIG. I, the system informs the viewer that a danger is becoming clear and that the cut-off is done automatically. The information is given by means of a flashing light signal, placed on the front face of the station. This first light device can be synchronized with an audible signal. It comprises a power supply transformer 1 which is connected on the one hand to the power circuit 2 of the television set, and, on the other hand, to the circuit 3 of the warning system. A circuit 4 is connected to circuit 3 by a switch 5, which monitors the temperature of the critical area. The circuit 3 comprises a diode 6 and the switch 5 which is extended by a signaling lamp 7 and an audible warning device 8, on the one hand, and by a chemical capacitor 9 and a relay 10, on the other hand. A capacitor 11 positioned in parallel on the relay 12 cuts the switch 13.

When the switch 5 switches to position T (work), - the capacitor 9 and relay 10 which were in position R (rest), also go to work position
T and the lamp 7 lights up. The capacitor 9 maintains the relay 10 in the working position until the charge of the capacitor is equal to zero. At this time, the relay 10 is again put in position R (rest) and the capacitor 9 is charged again, then the relay 10 comes in position T (work). The lamp 7 lights up again and this alternative effect keeps it flashing.

The switch 5 cut the current supplying the relay 12, and the capacitor 11 is charged and the time of its discharge keeps the relay 12 stuck. As soon as the capacitor 12 is discharged, this will have the effect of cutting off the relay 13 and the power supply to the television set. Diode 6 positioned on the 12-volt secondary of the transformer provides direct current, supplying voltage to the alarm system.

Figure II shows another embodiment of the method.

According to FIG. II, the relay 10 and the capacitor 9 are eliminated and replaced by a lamp 7, the flashing of which takes place as soon as a certain voltage supplies it.

Figure III is another variant of the process.

According to Figure III, the relay 12 and the capacitor 11 are eliminated. When switch 5 moves to position
T (work), the relay 10 also goes into the work position and the lamp 7 lights up. The capacitor 9 having discharged, the relay 10 returns again to position R (rest) and the cycle continues, the lamp 7 flashes. According to this variant, it is possible to replace the capacitor 9 and the lamp 7 with a flashing lamp.

According to this embodiment, the viewer must cut off the power to the station.

Figure IV is another variant of the process.

According to the latter, the lamp 7 and the horn 8 have also been removed. When the switch 5 is set to function T (work), the temperature having reached the critical point, the relay 13 with a delay due to the charge of the capacitor 9 is cut off and the power supply to the television set is automatically cut off.

According to another embodiment, the method may be provided with a flame detector.

The process which is the subject of the invention can be used very particularly for television sets.
