Abstract

It is often necessary to refer frequently to a particular section of a bulky volume. A book marker which indicates the required page is made in the shape of a disc (10) with half of one side (18) coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive. The part (18) of the disc (10) which is coated with adhesive is pressed against the edge of the required page so that the adhesive free portion stands out from the edges of the pages of the book. The book marker may also be of rectangular shape with two adhesive edges which can be folded over the edge of the page.

Description

 The present invention relates to special adhesive labels or tags, and more particularly an index tab, and an index tab device for storing and presenting the index tabs.

3 ns in the field of ordinary ordinary business work, we usually gather large files with many pages and containing the information we need. Certain pages of a file must be referred to more frequently than other pages, or some of these pages are more important than others. It is desirable to mark these pages so as to highlight them, so that you can refer to them quickly with a minimum of research.

 It is known to use marks fixed on certain pagas of a book or folder in order to make them stand out or in order to mark them so as to refer to them easily.

 The object of the invention is to produce an index tab which can be easily applied to a page to be marked.

 The invention also aims to produce an index tab capable of attracting the eye when it is fixed on a page.

Another object of the invention is to produce an index tab which can easily be removed from a support sheet in order to apply it to the page to be marked.

The invention also aims to achieve an index tab which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture and, therefore, to sell.

More particularly, the invention aims to achieve an index tab consisting of a body formed of a thin planar tab and provided with a planar surface coated on one part with a pressure-sensitive adhesive, a portion of this surface. flat thus remaining free of adhesive. The opposite flat surface of the onlet body is completely free of adhesive.

The present invention also relates to a device for

 In FIGS. 1 to 4, the index tab is designated as a whole by the reference 10, and is constituted by a thin placed tab forming a body 1 provided with two planar surfaces 14 and 16. One of the planar surfaces, by For example, the flat surface 14 is coated only in part, on a single zone designated by the reference 18, with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. Its fact that the planar surface 14 is coated only partially, in the zone 18, with this adhesive, a portion 20 of this surface 14 remains free of adhesive. The opposite planar surface 16 of the tab forming a body 12 is completely free adhesive. The index tab forming the body 12 is preferably of geometric shape. The surface of the zone 18 of the flat surface 14 which is partially coated with the decontact adhesive preferably represents not more than 50% of the total area of the surface 14. The zone 18 coated with adhesive does not not extend beyond the center line of surface 14.

Thus, when the tab forming a body 12 is provided with a geometric shape at its periphery, the area 18 coated with contact adhesive is symmetrical with respect to the center line of the surface 14 with the portion 20 free of adhesive.

Different types of suitable contact adhesives are well known to those skilled in the art, and therefore will not be described further here.

In FIGS. 5 and 6, the reference 22 designates as a whole a device for the storage and presentation of tabsindex 10. The tab-index device 22 is constituted by a flexible sheet of tab-index supports 24 shown in the form of a band. The support sheet 22 has at least one surface, for example a surface 24, having a low capacity for adhesion to the pressure facing the coating of contact adhesive 18 of the tab forming a body 12. The support sheet can, for example, be made of kraft paper, or waxed paper. A series of index tabs 10 is arranged in rows located at a distance from each other on the surface 24 of low adhesion capacity, so that the flat surface 14 provided with the coating of contact adhesive 18 of each tab -index is in contact with the surface 24. Thus, the index tabs 10 are held in position on the support sheet 22. To remove an index tab 10 from the support sheet 22, it is sufficient to grasp the tab at the level of the portion 20 free of adhesive, and to spread the tab of the support sheet 22.  FIG. 7 shows an index tab 10 similar to that of FIGS. 1 and 2, as well as an index tab similar to that of FIGS. 3 and 4 fixed by their adhesive to a page or sheet 26 of a file or book 28. As long as two tabs 10 fixed on page 26 have been shown to show the method of fixing the disc-shaped tab, as well as the method of fixing the rectangular tab, it is necessary to understand that only one of these tabs is to be used. The index tab 10 is oriented relative to page 26 so that the zone 18 coated with contact adhesive is in contact with page 26, the portion 20 of the adhesive-free index tab extending outward beyond the edge of page 26. FIGS. 8 and 9 show another embodiment before gas of the index tab according to the invention, designated as a whole by the reference 110, and constituted by a thin planar tab forming a body 112 provided with two planar surfaces 114 and 116. distance from each other and designated by the references 118, with a contact adhesive. The area of each of the two coated areas 118 does not extend over more than 25fi of the total area of the surface 114, and these zones are arranged at the opposite ends of the tab forming a body 112, so that the total sum of the coated zones 118 does not exceed 50% of the total area of the surface 114. thus, it is delimited between the zones covered with adhesive a portion 120 free of adhesive. In addition, a reference league 119 is provided on the tab forming the body 112. This line extends, overall, transversely to the longitudinal axis of the tab forming the body 112, and is, in the 'together, at equal distances from the two areas coated with adhesive 118, so that these two areas are symmetrical to each other with respect to the reference line 119.

 FIG. 10 shows the rectangular index tab 110 of FIGS. 8 and 9 fixed by its adhesive on a page 26 of a file or of a book 28. To fix the index tab 110 on the tab 26, it is folds along the line of reference 119, so that the two zones 118 covered with adhesive are opposite one another. The index tab 110 is placed so that one of the zones coated with adhesive 116 adheres to one of the faces of page 26, while the other zone 118 adheres to the opposite face of the same page 26 , the marker portion 120 extending outward from the edge of page 26.

It will be readily understood that the index tab 110 can be fixed to the support sheet 22 for storage and presentation in the same way as the index tabs 10. In other words, each index index 110 is placed on the surface 24 with low adhesion capacity so that the planar surface 114 provided with areas 118 covered with contact adhesive is in contact with this surface 24.

Claims (12)

 1. Index tab characterized in that it includes:  - a thin plane tab forming a body  - on this body forming tab, a flat surface covered only in part with a pressure-sensitive adhesive, a portion of this flat surface thus remaining an example of adhesive - On this tab forming the body, a flat surface opposite the first flat surface, and completely free of adhesive.  2. Index tab according to claim 1, characterized in that the periphery of the tab forming a body is of geometric shape.  3. Cn-let-index according to claim 2, characterized in that the area of said flat surface which is covered with adhesive does not exceed 50% of the total area of said flat surface.  4. Index tab according to claim 3, characterized in that said area covered with contact adhesive is a single area. 5. Index tab according to claim 3, characterized e-n that a predetermined mark is placed on the flat surface of one tab forming a body which is completely free of adhesive. 11. Tab India: according to claim 10, characterized in that the flat surface of the tab forming a body which is completely free of adhesive is covered with a sheet of plastic material.  12. Index-tab device for storing and presenting index-tabs according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises  a) a series of index tabs each comprising - a thin flat tab forming a body  - On this tab forming a body, a flat surface covered only in part with a pressure-sensitive adhesive, a "portion of this flat surface thus remaining free of adhesive; - on this body tab, a flat surface affixed to the first flat surface, and completely free of adhesive;  b) a flexible index tab support sheet provided with at least one surface with a low adhesion capacity facing the pressure-sensitive adhesive which covers said flat surface of said body tab;  c) on this surface with low adhesion capacity facing the pressure-sensitive adhesive which partially covers said flat surface of the tab forming the body of the flexible index tab support sheet, said series of index tabs arranged in rows located at a distance from each other, the pressure-sensitive adhesive being in contact with said surface with low adhesion capacity of the support sheet, the index tabs being thus held in position on the sheet- support, which makes it possible to easily choose and detach any of the index tabs from the support sheet without destroying the adhesive properties of this index tab.
