Abstract

The remote operating device comprises a cap (1) fitting over the operating button of the can. Inside the cap (1) is a spring (8) of sufficient strength to depress the button. A small removable block in the side of the cap carries a length of resistance wire (6) held in such a way that it maintains the spring (8) in a compressed position. The cap and the aerosol can are mounted in a bracket which supports them in their correct relative positions. To operate the aerosol a current is passed through the resistance wire. The heating effect causes breakage of the wire, allowing the compressed spring to operate the aerosol. The aerosol may for example be a 'neutralising' chemical to be directed at attackers, in the back of a taxi, in banks, or in other vulnerable places.
