Abstract

The retaining system uses a number of magnetic elements surgically implanted beneath the scalp and opposing elements spaced around the inside of the toupe base. The latter comprises a flexible artificial fibre web with inherent elasticity allowing it to conform exactly to the surface configuration of the wearer's skull and having the same colour as the scalp. Pref. the magnetic elements comprise magnetic alloy discs of 1.5 mm dia., the alloy pref. based on cobalt and a rare earth metal. Their dia. is pref. between 1.2 and 1.5 mm and they are magnetised in a direction perpendicular to their major surfaces.

Elle concerne également des moyens destinés à la mise en oeuvre de ce procédé, et en particulier une prothèse capillaire et un outil chirurgical. Il est courant de faire porter aux personnes chauves des prothèses capillaires constituées par une base adaptable sur le crâne, en tissu ou en feuille de matière élastique notamment, à laquelle sont fixés des cheveux de remplacement répartis sur toute sa surface. Mais pour être confortable, une telle prothèse doit être retenue solidement sur le crâne, et de ce point de vue les techniques de collage ne se sont pas révélées satisfaisantes.
