Abstract

The tub (1) is filled with soil and has several containers (2) buried below the surface. The container is impermeable to water and is enclosed, except for a vertical extension tube (4). This projects above the surface and is used to fill the container with water. The water level is gauged by a dipstick (5) and the plants are watered by wicks. These dip (7) in the water and pass through the container top (3). Each wick has a horizontal length (6), still buried in the soil, and dips downwards (8) to terminate in a frayed-out end (9).

Description

The present invention relates to plant containers, such as shrub tubs or flower pots.

In a conventional plant container, the soil rests on a false, perforated upper bottom, providing with the bottom an irrigation chamber supplied with water by a lateral duct. Wicks pass through the perforations and bring the water up by capillary action to the bottom of the earth.

The large surface of stagnant water under the false bottom generates fermentations and various beams, damaging to the plant. The end of the roots is irrigated too abundantly, which often causes the plant to die back.

The invention overcomes these drawbacks by a plant container, .containing a reservoir communicating with the container by a wick, characterized in that the free end of the wick is at the top of the container.

The top of the container is understood to mean the part at the bottom of the free face of the earth which it contains and, by the top part, the part of it closer to the top than to the bottom. The water flows through the upper part of the earth, which gives irrigation the natural downward character of rainwater. The best is that the free end of the wick is flush with the free level of the earth, although, for aesthetic reasons, we may prefer to conceal this end by a thin layer of earth. In particular, good results are obtained when the wick is driven into the earth to a thickness representing one fifth and better still one tenth of the height of the earth.

To accentuate the similarity with the rain, it is better that the end section of the wick extends, going towards the free end, from top to bottom in the container and / or that the free end of the wick is the perturbation of the wick the lowest pus in the container.

If the dimension of the orifice through which the cone crosses the wall, and in particular that of the top of the tank ,.

est juste supérieure à celle de la mèche, celle-ci bouche l'orifice.is just greater than that of the wick, it plugs the orifice.

L'eau d'irrigation reste propre.Earth and other polluting materials cannot access the water supply. The irrigation water remains clean.

In the attached drawing, given solely by way of example:
FIG. 1 is a sectional view of a container according to the invention, and
Figure 2 is a sectional view along line II-II of Figure 1.

In a container 1 containing soil T is placed a tank 2 made of a material impermeable to water. The top of the tank 2 is pierced with four orifices 3. From the top of the tank 2 there is a filling pipe 4 which opens above the free face of the earth T. A gauging rod 5 can be engaged in the pipe 4. When one of its ends touches the bottom of the reservoir 2, the other end protrudes from the mouth of the conduit 4.

Through the orifices 3 pass respectively four wicks 6, the end sections of which extend, going towards the free ends, from the bottom upwards in the tank 2. These wicks 6 are bent and end with sections 8 d 'ends extending, going towards the free ends, from top to bottom - in the container 1. The free end 9 of one of the wicks in the container 1 is at a depth in the soil T representing less than fifth of. ' the height of the earth.
