Abstract

A filling consisting of dispersions of solid vinyl resins, esp. based on PVC, in liquid plasticisers, gives a medicine ball, the outside of which comprises panels of natural leather fixed by a polyurethane adhesive, its flexibility, resistance to compression, and desired weight. The viscosity of the filling is between 60 and 130 calculated according to ISO/R norms and the Shore A hardness is between 50 and 80. The weight ratio plasticiseer/resin varies according to the Shore A hardness and the resins are stabilised as regards heat and light. An inflating valve buried in the filling allows the regulation of the internal pressure. Deep grooves between the panels make the ball adaptable to any user.

Description

The medicine balls currently on the market are of two types: the first consists of a thermoplastic material loaded for example with one or two layers of polyvinyl chloride, while the second consists of an envelope preferably formed sewn leather panels, which give it the desired look and feel, and a load, for example, of rags or fabrics which determines its weight.

The invention relates only to a medicine ball of the second type.

A medicine ball according to the invention comprises, in known manner, an envelope, made of natural leather panels previously cut and treated in a conventional manner, which gives it the desired appearance and touch and which is fixed, with a glue to polyurethane base, at a load which gives the ball flexibility, tightness at pressure and the desired weight. This medicine ball is characterized in that: a) this load consists of plastisols, i.e. -display dispersions of solid vinyl resins, preferably based on polyvinyl chloride, in liquid plasticizers, in which the value of the viscosity index, used as the main characteristic of the resin, is calculated according to ISO / R standard .174 and is between 60 and 130, and whose Shore A hardness is between 50 and 80, the plasticizer / resin weight ratio being close to 110 for a Shore A hardness of 50, of 80 for a Shore A hardness of 65 , and 55 for a Shore A hardness of 80; b) the resins are stabilized with respect to heat and light (ultraviolet radiation) by heating after addition to the polyvinyl chloride / plasticizer mixture of combinations of metal derivatives and epoxy derivatives which react with the hydrochloric acid released during the increase in temperature, which causes the gelation of the resin and then the melting thereof, resulting in the most complete solvation of the resin, at a temperature in most cases between 180 and 1900 C, the stabilization system being adapted to each type of resin and to the conditions of use of the material with the apparatus which ensures the fusion.

The plastisols used are rotomolded in a single operation and keep a constant flexibility when using the medicine balls, that is to say when the ambient temperature is within a range of 10 to 30 C, which corresponds to the temperature of the training rooms.

Finally, to improve the grip as much as possible in order to adapt the medicine ball according to the invention to each user, the leather panels of the covering are separated by deep grooves, and the addition of a flooded inflation valve in the load adjusts the internal pressure from 0 to 0.1 bar and therefore adjusts the flexibility of the tank.
