Abstract

The sole is adapted for use in a sports shoe and consists of a number of layers of different materials. The bottom layer of the sole has a large number of hollow bosses which contact the ground to provide grip. The bottom or ground engaging surface (5) is flat. The bosses may be circular in plan form, though other shapes may be used. There is an outwardly extending rib (2) surrounding the flat tread portion (5) of each boss, and there is a groove (4) between this rib and the generally flat sole (1) of the shoe. There is a cylindrical blind bore (3) inside the boss, whose blind end may be slightly enlarged.
