Abstract

The electric hot plate consists of a cast iron griddle underneath which a heating element is mounted in a spiral groove. The heated section of the electric hot plate is bounded by an annular flange which has a cylindrical outer surface. The upper edge of the flange forms a cone which flares outwards. The hot-plate is supported by a mounting ring which prevents food particles which have dropped from cooking utensils from entering the appliance. The mounting ring is made from thin sheet stainless steel and has a conical outer surface which corresponds to the surface of the flange. It forms a tight fit to prevent the ingress of food particles. The peripheral edge of the mounting ring slopes gently towards the supporting surface.
