Abstract

2-Amino-ethyl isobutyrates of formula R1-CH2-(R2-CH2)CH-COO-CH2-CH2-NR3R4 (I) and their acid addition salts are new (where R1, R2 are different and chosen from 2-furyl, 2-benzo(b)-furyl, 2-thienyl and 3-benzo(b)thienyl: R3, R4 are 1-4C alkyl or together with the N-atom form a pyrrolidino, piperidino, morpholino or piperazino group, all of which may be substd. by 1 or 2 1-4C alkyl groups. Intermediates R1-CH2-(R2-CH2)CH-COOH (II) and R1-CH2-(R2-CH2)C(COO-C2-H5)-COO-C2H5 (III) are also new cpds. (I) have vascular activity particularly central and peripheral vasodilatory activity with spasmolytic and protective activity against cerebral ischemia. They are administered orally or parenterally in daily doses of 50-800 mg.
