Abstract

In accordance with familiar ultrasonic welding technology, a vibratory sonotrode is applied to a plastic detail which is to be attached to a body of fibrous material such as wood, carbon fibres, etc., on which it is placed. The combination of the pressure and the vibration sets up an intensive, locally limited friction at the interface of the two materials. The heat liberated melts the synthetic material so that it flows between the fibres, and the use of metal inserts embedded in the plastic for the rivetting of the details together is superceded.
