Abstract

Solid prod. for the purificn. of antibodies is prepd. by:-(a) activating a solid support having amino (-NH2) gps. with glutaraldehyde; (b) washing the support to remove excess glutaraldehyde; (c) contacting the activated support with a toxic substance; (d) washing the support to remove excess of the toxic cpd.; (e) detoxifying or inactivating the toxic substance fixed to the support by treatment with glutaraldehyde under controlled conditions (as described in the parent patent FR 222786) (Derwent 81939V147)), using a sufficient concn. of glutaraldehyde for sufficient time just to deactivate the toxic cpd. and then stopping the reaction by physical and/or chemical means when this is achieved. Purificn. of antibodies used to prepare vaccines and in dianostics. The toxic substance may be a bacterial toxin (e.g. diphtheria, tetanus or botulism) or move diverse substance, such as whole of parts of viruses, venoms etc. The prod. may be used to purify blood, immunoglobulins or other biological samples. Solid support is pref. polyacrylamide agarose gel.
