Abstract

The feed and discharge ends of the machine are now equiped with automatic transfer mechanisms at the feed end, standard carrier tray stacks of cheeses are automatically picked down to a single cheese layer which is gently advanced towards the machine infeed belt via an elevator with guide fingers. At the delivery ends of the machine, a line of salted cheeses rolls into a slot in a rotor on a horizontal axis. The rotor has eight, evenly spaced slots and automatically rotates one eighth of a revolution each time a slot is filled with cheeses. The previously filled slot then delivers a number of cheeses in line abreast, ready for feeding directly on to a standard carrier tray. In the parent patent, the cheeses are presented to the machine; stacked on carrier trays. After salting, the cheeses are delivered by the machine in single file, rolling on edge. The automatic transfer mechanisms, are both labour saving and instrumental in reducing transfer damage to delicate cheese.
