Abstract

A microwave oven has a door (16) pivoted to the front panel of the oven by two pairs of parallel levers (20) so that in moving between an upper open position and a lower closed position the door remains coplanar with the front panel. The door has four hooks (22) which engage in corresponding holes (24) in the panel, those holes being closed by slides (26) behind the panel when the door is open to prevent access to four microswitches (38) which are closed by the hooks (24) when they engage in the panel holes. As the door is closed suitable cams on the levers allow spring displacement of the slides to open the panel holes for access by the hooks. The hooks actuate the microswitches while a cam on the slides trip a further microswitch (40) when the door is fully closed. The closing of all switches electromagnetically drives the slides behind the hooks to lock the oven. In the locked positions only, the slides trip a microwave ON switch.
