Abstract

A temperature measuring probe with a replaceable cover is used with an electronic thermometer. Such a thermometer system is used in hospitals and surgeries to measure the temperature of a number of patients. A temperature probe (10) has a throwaway cover (12) and comprises a thermistor element at the remote end of a shaft (16). The cover is placed in position by gripping a handle (22) and pushing into the cover such that the open end (20) abuts against pins (26) which are withdrawn into the handle assembly. After use, an ejection button (24) is pushed to allow the pins to eject the cover. The cover is a close fit over the thermistor to allow the cover to conduct heat to the thermistor. Measurement is made at a remote assembly to which it is connected via a cable (18).
