Abstract

In the prodn. of unsatd. cpds. from paraffins, mono-olefines and/or alkyl aromatics by contact with a catalyst contg. 5-35 wt. % oxide of Mo or a carrier, at 400-700 degrees C, in presence of inert gas and/or steam, the carrier consists of (A) porous, cryst. SiO2 modified with 1-20% MgO, (B) a granulated mixt. of 50-90 wt. % MgO and 50-5% TiO2, or (C) a granulated mixt. of 70-95% MgO and 30-5% Al2o3. The exhausted catalyst is re-activated at 400-700 degrees C in a stream of gas contg. O2. Used as monomers for synthetic rubber, plastics, etc. and as raw material for organic synthesis. Absence of O2 from the reaction mixt. simplifies temp. control and reduces risk of explosion. Yield and selectivity are increased.
