Abstract

The coupler provides high alignment accuracy for multiline optical cables. Male and female connectors are identical apart from the setting of locating rods. Each connector consists of a block recessed to accept a series of longitudinal rods. Individual lines are held in the spaces between adjacent rods (M) maintained vertically in position by a compressible pad (28) in the connector cover plate. The line positioning rods are held laterally by a pair of rods on either side of the group, the outer rods (91, 94) being recessed or protruding to act as locating male or female elements.
