Abstract

A filter element for air filters, partic. those mounted on automobile engines, consists of several plates made of flexible cellular material permeable to air, e.g. polyurethane foam, placed side by side. Each plate presents two ribs along two opposite sides forming spacing struts between neighbouring plates. Some of the ribs have air passage orifices so as to define between the plates an alternation of air inlet chambers open at a first or inlet side and closed at a second or outlet side of the filter body and air outlet chambers closed at the first or inlet side and open at the second or outlet side. The filter is simple, gives a large filtering surface in a small vol. and can be easily adapted to filters of different volumes.
