Abstract

When folded up the shovel is small enough to be carried in the pocket and when extended can be used to sweep animal droppings off footpaths to the road gutter, avoiding pedestrian inconvenience and risk of slipping and falling. The shovel blade is made of several elements (10) hinged together in parallelogram linkage so that when extended they form a square to take a disposable sachet (4). They can be folded up and turned about a hinge (3) so that they have the same length as one section of the handle (5) and therefore the same length as the handle when collapsed.
