Abstract

In the construction of a clothes drying "mushroom", the sliding carrying sleeve and the covering securing sleeve (6) is fitted with two parallel projecting flanges (9). They act as a mounting for a shaft (11) between their ends to support a linked locking pwal (10). The pawl has a tooth (13) which engages in a rack (7) and also has a mounting (15) for the draw cord (8). The other end of the pawl is operated by a spring (16) which pivots the pawl round the shaft to engage the rack. A further shaft (12) supports the separating components (17) for both the sleeves. The design gives a simple system to deploy and retract the clothes dryer, which requires little force on the operating cord and which places the unit at the right height for use.
