Abstract
The control system comprises a probe consisting of a pattern of parallel lines on the windscreen of a motor vehicle and used to detect rain for an electronic circuit. This circuit is switched manually by the driver to perform various commands such as wiper speed and operation of windscreen washer. The probe is connected to the input of a comparator which operates a relay driver transistor when its resistance is lowered by water. This activates the windscreen wipers at low speed. A second comparator operates a second relay driver transistor when the probe resistance is further decreased. This causes the windscreen wipers to be operated at high speed. When rain ceases, the motor current increases due to blade friction. This is sensed by a series resistor to which a third comparator is connected. This circuit switches off the wiper motor.
