Abstract

The electronic time display is for clocks and wrist watches. It employs a disc divided radially into time zones, each of which is independently excitable using liquid crystals or light emitting diodes simulating orthodox hour and minute hand movement and position. The display control circuit consists of an exciter driving a quartz oscillator followed by a frequency division and an output circuit. This has a unique to each liq. crystal element etc. a memory ensuring change of excitation from each element to its neighbour. The disc may have an outer annular area carrying figures 1-12 etc. The radial divisions are sepd. into an inner and outer zone representing the hour and minute hand sweeps. Alternative segments can hold digit displays and form a rectangular matrix.
